Hi. The technology the Met police has acquired for use in the UK has great benign value in the protection of citizens from serious crime and acts of terrorism. However, the potential for misuse is extremely high even for a country with such established legislation to protect civil liberties. In the event that the GoK's security agencies acquire such technology do we have a legal framework sufficient to ensure the rights of citizens are not violated? Would we even know when such technology is acquired or would it fall under an ambiguous budget line such as 'Technology Hardware'? Daktari, Though I concur with your thesis...I dare not conceive that considering discarding our languages should even be an option! Science has told us we think in vernacular then translate to other languages. That's a given. I submit that our languages are part of our 'genetic code' through which we view, understand and relate with the rest of the world. Discarding our languages therefore would result in a slavery of sorts since we would need to use 'imported genetic code' to view, understand and relate with not just the world but ,regrettably, with ourselves as well! I think they introduced diplomas on local indigenous languages(Luo,Luganda,Runyakitara,Kiswahili,Ateso). To have the institutes is one side of the coin, to complement the institutes with tech---so that they serve as the supply end to the tech-repository for our languages is the second side of the coin. Safaricom daily bundles

Hi All, Seems the case against a blogger has dampened the activity on the list. That's beside the point, I recently got a SMS about the Safaricom daily data bundle, which to the best of my knowledge I did not subscribe to as I do not use my phone for browsing (actually I have a separate phone for such activities). I assumed that the message was in error so I ignored it just to realise a few days later that the service was being renewed every day so I dialled the request code *544# to unsubscribe from the service just to find that the option does not exist on the menu. I then called 200 for assistance to be told that the item is not on the menu but that I should type "98" to get the option, we expect better from Safaricom can someone please resolve this issue a.s.a.p to prevent some of us from blowing the issue to the required proportions.
