Hi, Kenya had a "strongman" but Kenyans wanted a country governed by strong institutions and thus the new constitution. The transformation is still on going. Rwanda and Kenya are neighbours but we are distinctly different in many aspects so we need not cut and paste their governance. Lets have faith in our institutions. It's not a strongman who would make Kenya become what it was in the 1960s, rather, it's the attitude of the people towards accountability and integrity. Kagame will go but Rwanda will remain. Kenyatta passed on but Kenya is still here. With the right attitude, we can go far. Look at it this way, why are the current political class yearning to be the leaders of Kenya, is not because they have the passion for Kenya. They want: 1. to maintain the *status quo* - make the poor more poor and rich more richer 2. to protect their interests - because by becoming a president, personal assets can in a way be protected by the state machinery. Just interrogate their manifestos and you'll see what it's all about. Although most of the time we blame leaders, it's very important to develop the remain people who are informed, intellect and guard the rule of law. Kenya, we must remember is bigger than individuals. That's how the dream of the new Kenya, can be achieved.

Agreed Solomon, i think we need a paradigm shift that will ensure we instill values in the people its not the strongman who will save but institutions as Etinick says i do feel that Kenya is the best in this part of the world, the problem is we lack values , we are out to pull each other down for our own selfish gains, it sickens me when i here national projects being refered to as Ndemo's project or Barracks project, Shikuku spoke about this culture on the bench recently, its unfortunate that on accident scenes people are keener to steal than to assist the injured or salvage their property, this are the issues that should concern us going forwad we need cameras all over the place to aid in apprehending those breaking the law, i was perplexed yesterday when Matatus zoomed on the wrong side of the dual carriageway with abandon almost causing head on colissions with other cars do we blame the government for this? No way, inside those matatus we have citizens who can put a stop to such nonsense since we can't help ourselves we might as well have the cameras to deal with hooliganism which has permeated every sphere of our society, its really unfortunate that such despicable acts are now being sugarcoated with tribal conotations you just need to sit in those jua kali sheds to listen to what is being discussed. We need to wake up, i hope Mugo Kibati is listening. On Tue, Apr 3, 2012 at 9:21 AM, Solomon Mbũrũ Kamau <solo.mburu@gmail.com>wrote:

Kenyans are far far much better than the Rwandese when it comes to "talking" and "conferences". We have the best debaters. Unfortunately, those "boardroom debates" don't necessarily translate into action on the ground. To me, I say, let Kenyans be. Let the Rwandese show the way. Etinick True. Institutions remain our best bet. Yet, we can't even try post-election violence suspects, leave alone give justice to its victims. We shout ICC, focus on 6 suspects yet there many, many more that committed crimes. And we can't get a tribunal going to address this gap in the administration of justice. Corruption runs rampant, even in the highest offices of this land; offices manned by some that pontificate justice, equity, access, etc. Yet theirs is preaching water while they drink wine. At that rate, perhaps not even my grandchildren will enjoy the society some of us dream of. A strongman would accelerate the formation/realization of those institutions, i.e. provided the strongman knows what s/he is doing and where s/he is taking the country. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Matunda Nyanchama, PhD, CISSP; mnyanchama@aganoconsulting.com Agano Consulting Inc.; www.aganoconsulting.com; Twitter: nmatunda; Skype: okiambe ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Be prepared to face ICT Security failures & know how to respond when they happen! It was not just tribalism that caused post election violence. It is social structures which discourage accountability / transparency, hinder innovation and increase frustration / alcoholism / violence. The Chief Justice can deny (on Twitter or Google+) if this is not true... In Kenya, some judges (public officers / constitutional office holders) cannot be found guilty of bigamy... as the 2010 Kenya constitution exempts them from the Bill of Rights. http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/story/2012-03-10/facebook-bigamy/5346058... How many of us would qualify as non prisoners, let alone as public 'corrections" officers in North America? On Tue, Apr 3, 2012 at 11:04 AM, Matunda Nyanchama < mnyanchama@aganoconsulting.com> wrote:
Etinick True. Institutions remain our best bet. Yet, we can't even try post-election violence suspects, leave alone give justice to its victims. We shout ICC, focus on 6 suspects yet there many, many more that committed crimes. And we can't get a tribunal going to address this gap in the administration of justice.
Corruption runs rampant, even in the highest offices of this land; offices manned by some that pontificate justice, equity, access, etc. Yet theirs is preaching water while they drink wine.
At that rate, perhaps not even my grandchildren will enjoy the society some of us dream A strongman would accelerate the formation/realization of those institutions, i.e. provided the strongman knows what s/he is doing and where s/he is taking the country.

Hi,
Kenya had a "strongman" but Kenyans wanted a country governed by strong institutions and thus the new constitution. The transformation is still on going. Rwanda and Kenya are neighbours but we are distinctly different in many aspects so we need not cut and paste their governance. Lets have faith in our institutions.
