Robert, These are good contributions. Skunkworks have been raising funds for a mail server that could also be used as a media or video conferencing server also if enough funds are raised to get a good server. Maybe you could suggest HP or Dell Server specs good enough within the 100K to 200K range. None of us are sure yet how many would be logging in concurrently but we could assume not more than 100 to begin with. The technical skills & energy available on Skunkworks makes them quite able to manage (not host) such equipment. Josiah Mugambi or Phares Kariuki can update us on the progress being made on that front. Cheers SMM On Tue, Feb 23, 2010 at 12:18 PM, robert yawe <robertyawe@yahoo.co.uk>wrote:

Hi, What was requested for is a server that can meet the IPTV requirements, currently that is what we want to role out. We shall regulate those allowed to logon, this is to get an appreciation of the technology and the skills available locally. Once the prototype is tested we shall then move to the next level of commercialization at which point we shall look into the most appropriate hardware. Please note that this is a knee jack reaction as a resolved of the fiasco that was Dr. Ndemo's presentation recording. So please lets move forward with the initial test I am interested in the IPTV component so the server is to be used solely for that purpose. Dear Mr. Aguyo, A history A few months ago I proposed that Dr. Ndemo give us a presentation on the Malili ICT Park so that we would be in the picture of what was going on. Because I knew many would not have been able to attend we it was proposed that the session be recorded, and as there are members on this list who are not resident locally the recording should be digitised and posted online. As a result of this proposal Skunkworks indicated that they would be able to set up an IPTV "station" and what they needed was a server to install onto. The Present To be able to assist them in putting up the "station" I and a few philanthropic Kenyan's have offered to finance the purchase of the server for the Skunkworks group as an R&D project and to test the local technical skill levels on the same. I hope this clears the fog. Just came back from UON where Prof. Kamau demonstrated the converter box. We shall find modalities of starting its production asp. Noted there is need for all of its software be developed here. That we must scale up digital tv applications. Decided that we familialize the digital tv to local developers and areas we want new apps. Paul Kukubo is to arrange a seminar in two weeks where KBC would present the opportunities. Further ICT Board to start a local content drive in all fronts: education, entertainment, etc. I will strive to raise the necessary resources. Regards. Ndemo. This is indeed good news! Kudos to Prof. Kamau, and the University of Nairobi Engineering School for successfully reverse engineering the converter box for digital TV, the Ministry of Information and Communications for setting the ball rolling on modalities for production as well as the content drive through ICT Board. Digital Broadcasting will surely open the t-learning platform. As an educational stakeholder, I would love to be included in the seminars, discussions that will drive the content for this medium. I remember contacting the ICT Board quite a while ago to find out more details about local content generation grants that I found on the website. Would this be the same initiative? We create lots and lots of local content for www.ratio-magazine.com and I had been interested to find out whether we'd be eligible for such a grant.
