e-Government Online Portal

Dear All, The Directorate of e-Government has developed an internet portal to facilitate citizen access to integrated public services using a computer, PDA or phone. A catalogue of government services has been developed. It is intended that this simplified method of accessing a wide variety of government services will enhance service delivery and reduce opportunities for graft. The link to this service is www.kenya.go.ke or www.hudumakenya.go.ke. This portal also allows you to personalize the services that you require so that when you log on to the portal you only see the services that you want. The same applies to the links one visits on a regular basis including social networking sites. One can add and remove services at will. To do this one must first create an account. Try it out! Your feedback will be highly appreciated. Esther Wanjau Directorate of e-Government Presidency & Cabinet Affairs Office email: [email protected]

A great step in the direction towards true Gov2.0 in Kenya. I hope the other services like the business name search will now be implemented...I noticed that it isn't quite working on hudumakenya.go.ke So does this mean I now have a new email address @hudumakenya.go.ke? This is a great step Esther, however, in the individual service links e.g. “Applying for a driver License” , there should be a link to the forms mentioned such as “Form VII”, etc. In this case, I cannot find the Form VII (in the forms page) and the text only reads that it can be obtained at the Transport Department & DC’s office.
Best Regards,
Edwin

Dear Esther, This is a great initiative. Well done. I've already signed up for an account and I have a question, does the name search form under the business registration section link to the company registrar's database, and is this part of the solution to the automated business registration that was discussed some while back on this list? Hi Esther, Great stride! The first stage of eGov is informational....I hope we will move rapidly to actual interaction and service provision online. Reminds me when I had to go to the police station recently for a police abstract...didn't know that I need to carry with me an abstract form (surprise!)...so I had to go next door to buy an asbtract form! The greatest challenge will be to build the capacity of the service providers behind the colourful portal to deliver actual services and respond to queries. We must also have a feedback mechanism. You may wish to have a look at a compilation of eGov experiences from across Africa (esp Mauritius) through the book Waema and I recently co-authored at http://web.idrc.ca/openebooks/518-2/ Full title - Waema, T.M.; Adera, E.O. Hi Esther, This is indeed great progress. I hope that one day, we shall not be required to download forms, but we shall actually fill them online and get where possible the services and feedback as pointed out by Edith online. With regard to the content under services in hudumakenya.org, i feel that it does speak a lot about the requirements, but is rather silent on procedure, which in my view is usually the bigger problem. Therefore, would it be possible to also indicate the steps to be followed, tied with the requirements when say e.g. applying for an ID, pin, driving licence etc so that one is aware that say for example: to start the process Z, you fill in forms 1,2,3 and attach 5,6,7 and take them to Office A, then take item 8,9,10 to office B and pay amount Q and collect item 12 from office C after X days. Secondly, where possible, to have a link to the relevant ministry, government department or agency website where activities undertaken by them are being discussed. I think it would also be helpful if such departments also include similar or additional information on their websites for ease of reference. Lastly, why is there a requirement for registration?
