Egypt & Tunisia - tipping points
As we call for twitter and facebook organised demonstrations to force governments out of office lets realise that this populations had reached a tipping point, as they say "the straw that broke the camels back". We therefore need to be careful about assuming that just having the tools that were available to the civilians in Egpt and Tunisia are sufficient for a mass uprising. Using the same analogy in the ICT sector just having high speed internet and accent neutral english speakers shall not cause a revolution in the outsourcing arena. The failures at attempting to replicate Silicon Valley are more than the successes so lets find our own vehicle to leverage ICT. Regards PS. I agree with your point Bob, developing the right culture and attitudes is critical if any meaningfull revolution is to be attained in the Information Society, i am not very sure if we are doing too well in R&D in so fa as Business Process Re-engineering is concerned, what the society is demanding is a bottom up developement model.. Hi, The reasons for the success of the Egyptian revolution has now come clear its a handbook titled "Protest Intelligently". So there was more to the whole process than just a solitary act, there was a process which has been documented and is now being used to rebel the same action in Libya and other states. Listening to President Museveni's answer during an interview by Jeff Koinange about the possibility of a uprising in Uganda in the event that he worn the election was quite telling, he said that that would be deemed as the uprising by a minority and would be dealt with as such. This approach of social action has outlived its usefulness in the same way that the Bangalore and Silicon valley models have become cliché meaning that our activities at Malili have a very high likelihood for failure.
