Re: [kictanet] Welcome to The new WananchiForums.Com

Alai, any reason why wananchi forums use a dot com domain instead of a .ke? best alice
Wananchi,
I am happy to welcome you to the new look www.wananchiforums.com. It has taken me three days to make the small adjustments and improve the branding of the forum. I wish now to invite you all to join us in www.wananchiforums.com as we get more involved in getting to air our views openly without fear or favour.
I wish also to inform you that there is going to be very competitive advertising products which we will roll out in the next month or two to cater for the clients who look for results.
More on this will come later......................

Alice I bought a domain through Jambo Telkom in August and what I went through is just making ma avoid the .ke domains. If you check malca.co.ke you will realise that I bought it in August and I had to wait for 3 days for it to work. And at ksh 5,000, I bought the domain plus forwarding since I wanted the domain not to mixed with others since it for another business. The hosting I found was not working well since the POP and SMPTP addresses which Telkom Kenya gave me could not get mails in Outlook if you are using a different ISP from Telkom Kenya. I had to get my ISP POP and SMTP addresses and this was tiresome since in the office we were using a VSAT service which the whole building was sharing and getting the mail aaddresses and ports was just going to be hectic. I then told the Jambo Telkom team to do domain forwarding to my host in USA (hostgator). The forwarding took another 2 days to be acted up on by Jambo Telkom team. I brought this to the attention of Njeri Rionge, she didnt even care to answer and also brought this to attention of the Jambo Telkom team and went there myself on Sixth floor since I did my internship at Telkom Helpdesk and know most of the people in cluding the guy called Akorino who is still doing most of the Jambo Telkom stuff there. The slow response just killed me since this was a business address which I did register for my sister and she was loosing alot and sshe didnt want to use yahoo coz she wanted to show some seriousness. Alice, the attitude and slow response, and I guess this is both from KENIC and TELKOM, just made me run away. And changing the registrars couldnt have helped since I was told at Telkom Kenya that the problem is that KENIC is only effecting domain registration on particular days and times and so calling them to effect a change wont help much. Sorry dude! On a lighter note, perharps learning some french might help 8~). All the best with the forum! It looks good, nice colors, nice logo. The image with the ppl (at the top) is blurred, a sharper image might be better. 8~) --- On Wed, 12/3/08, Robert Alai <alai.robert@gmail.com> wrote: From: Robert Alai <alai.robert@gmail.com> Subject: Re: [kictanet] Welcome to The new WananchiForums.Com To: kiriinya2000@yahoo.com Cc: "KICTAnet ICT Policy Discussions" <kictanet@lists.kictanet.or.ke> Date: Wednesday, December 3, 2008, 7:20 AM Alice I bought a domain through Jambo Telkom in August and what I went through is just making ma avoid the .ke domains. The sceptics are quickly dismissing Vijay Rangineni. He is Chief Operating Officer, Satyam BPO Limited based in Hyderabad, Andra Pradesh State. He says that he has been through the season of sceptics before and has come full circle: 10 years ago hardly anybody believed that outsourcing business processes from the US to India was a business proposition. Now Satyam BPO are moving to the next level - outsourcing non-verbal work to the rural villages in Andra Pradesh. Villagers are given basic data entry training lasting 3 months and now Vijay is helping oversee a workforce of over 40,000. Already he has bagged lucrative contracts including working on digitising the library of Harvard University and being the official IT Solutions provider for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Vijay appears happy with progress so far and the trends. He mentiones a staff attrition rate of hardly 2%. This, he quips, is perhaps due to the fact that the workers are working in their home villages rather than the uncertain environments of large urban areas.... Hi, Interesting issue, just this morning I was telling a manager at Telkom how our BPO model is skewed for failure. How do we expect to compete with village graduates when using urban graduates, hope our fellows are hearing this issue.
