Safaricom Credit Disappearing

Hi, How does one stop Safaricom credit disappearing? Many of us have noticed it does not last even when data is disabled. Have resorted to loading 50 bob only to limit credit disappearance. Forgot and loaded 100 bob (not 50 bob) and it is already disappearing. Data is disabled. I get sms's I never subscribed to download ringtones, Have not tried downloading a ringtone since 2011 - as the mobile os is not supported -- was never reimbursed, never received responses for 3 or more failed downloads. Realized then not to trust the sms service providers on these these telcos. SOS! Murigi / Stanley Muraya *"Better a patient person than a warrior, one with self-control than one who takes a city." Hi Muraya, I have found that in most cases this happens because someone subscribes to a service and then forgets that they have done so. They then find their credit "magically" disappearing. Try dialing *100# then go to option 7 and check what services you are subscribed to and unsubscribe from there. On Wed, Oct 9, 2013 at 6:35 AM, S.M. Muraya <murigi.muraya@gmail.com> wrote:

I have found this to be a result of the following 2 common items: 1. Someone (a lot of times your kids when using your phone) attempts to purchase some content using your phone. Most of these services subscribe you when trying to buy one piece of content. 2. A content service provider who operates the service subscribes you without your knowledge. This is illegal in as far as the regulations are concerned. The method described below will remove you from any service (kudos to Safaricom on that). If it keeps happening, report it to Safaricom or even better CCK. I have seen them follow up through with such - before you do report, confirm that its not 1 above. There is a simple solution to this - than everything else everyone has said: 1. Go to selfcare.safaricom.co.ke 2. Go through the NEW registration process 3. Complete it with the activation code sent to your mobile 4. Login after that and go to Billing -> Recent or Unbilled Usage. Select a Time Period and then click Search. It should display how your airtime has been used. If you notice a discrepancy, call Customer Care to explain it. HTH On 9 October 2013 11:04, Bernard Kioko [Bernsoft Group] <bkioko@bernsoft.com

I did have the same issue a while back http://blog.denniskioko.com/2013/07/how-safaricom-clients-are-being-robbed.h... and learned a thing or two from the same http://blog.denniskioko.com/2013/08/how-kenyan-mobile-users-are.html Basically, Premium Rate service Providers have been misbehaving and having a field day quietly subscribing people to services they didn't sign for, and charging a premium (as their name states). The buck here stops at CCK, these guys need to be arrested and charged, then their systems will stop "malfunctioning". On Wednesday, 9 October 2013, S.M. Muraya wrote:

Hi Muraya,
I have found that in most cases this happens because someone subscribes to a service and then forgets that they have done so. They then find their credit "magically" disappearing. Try dialing *100# then go to option 7 and check what services you are subscribed to and unsubscribe from there.

Hi,
How does one stop Safaricom credit disappearing?
Many of us have noticed it does not last even when data is disabled.
Have resorted to loading 50 bob only to limit credit disappearance.
Forgot and loaded 100 bob (not 50 bob) and it is already disappearing.
Data is disabled. I get sms's I never subscribed to download ringtones,
Have not tried downloading a ringtone since 2011 - as the mobile os is not supported -- was never reimbursed, never received responses for 3 or more failed downloads. Realized then not to trust the sms service providers on these these telcos.
SOS!

@Brian Ngure, This is super useful! Many thanks. Like Muraya, I have been long suffering in silence to the degree of considering switching networks. I notice that Safaricom does not promote such features vigorously to the general public and only a select few super users know about them. I am sure the motive for this is clear. This is a pity because it would save them from the many Customer Service calls they have to contend with. However, even with this "hack", I think we will do well to take note of Muraya's point and monitor if indeed there is airtime pilferage going on. I for one think it is unethical to quietly continue deductions even when the network can ascertain that a subscriber is no longer using a service; I am sure they have ways to know this. I am sharing pronto with my FB circle. Again, many thanks.
