Being charged to play radio!?
Hi All, There are people going round asking for a fee of Ksh.1950 so as to allow any one to play music in public e.g companies.. anybody else aware of this? apparently this was on TV yesterday (i did not catch news or had a chance to read the paper). my questions.. which body enacted this? CCK or the ministry of Info Comm ( Hon. Bitange?) is there a site that has the info on how this will work? deadlines, the rates etc etc who will regulate this? -- Sincerely yours, Secretariat Manager Kenya ICT Federation Tel: 020 4440102 Mobile: 0721907995 secretariat@kif.or.ke, info@kif.or.ke http://www.kif.or.ke "Whatever your mind expects and demands, it will find a way to produce it." - Napoleon Hill Mahatma Gandhi once said:- First they ignore you, Then they laugh at you, Then they fight you, AND THEN YOU WIN!!!

I suspect it is the MCSK - http://www.mcsk.or.ke/about.htm - who on their website state: "MCSK is the body that issues licenses for public performance and broadcasting of musical artistic works of composers, authors and publishers in Kenya." You'd need to find out if the law relating to radio licenses/permits was repealed. Remember those days when you had to pay for radio permit whenever buying a new set? And I remember vaguely that it was supposed to be an annual fee but nobody bothered to renew after the first payment:-) This fee was payable to KBC (maybe it was channeled to the govt, dunno). With the advent of liberalization of the airwaves, I think the fee/permit was overtaken by events but I don't ever remember if the relevant section of the law was repealed, so the law might still be in force and probably folks from KBC are enforcing it. If not them, then someone from the MCSK of Kenya can enlighten you on this as it may be falling within their domain. -- Best regards, Odhiambo WASHINGTON, Nairobi,KE +254733744121/+254722743223 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ "Oh My God!
