Google Advert Nuisance

Folks, Is it just me getting annoyed and frustrated by popping Google ads and advertising? Now the Google trader page is opening over the video am watching. This strategy of driving users crazy cant be good business. Mucheru and co., please advice us on how to avoid this Google harassment. regards, Wamuyu

Good point, I am already tired of the Orange ad which has been playing on all videos I view on YouTube. 5 videos mean 5 replays of the ad.

Not to mention that there's no joy (either in getting your problem solved or the monotonous ad that keeps on playing on and on.) in dealing with their call centres. Orange/Safaricom/Airtel/yu need to really up their game in dealing with customers. The notion that customer service is about answering my call and subjecting me to a tortuous process to solve my problem that is then not solved is NOT CUSTOMER SERVICE. I do actually feel sorry for the customer service executives who answer these calls because I honestly feel that the companies' processes are what is wanting here.. I hope someone in the C-Suites of the Telcos is listening..(Though I won't be holding my breath). 1 - Google owns YouTube and I gather most users use YouTube for FREE - so there is that trade off you have to accept. Same with free to air TV I guess - we can't ask NTV/Citizen/KTN to remove their ads... 2 - You have the option to close the ad - just float your cursor over the top right side and you'll see the close. Imagine Free to Air TV with the same ad every 5 minutes? They should at least know which advert was played to a certain user and how frequent it is played. Too much becomes a nuisance.

Perpahs we need kenyan businesses to advertise more so there is more ads to rotate. One reason free to air ads are not irritating is coz there are many advertiser. But I get the point on the monotony... Well Dennis - on free to air TV it still does happen somewhat - with the scrolling marquees at the bottom of the screen on some stations. And TV is one way so there would be no option to cancel the ads like there is with Google. I'd say its a small price to pay to use a free service - can you imagine, in the absence of youtube, gmail, etc etc - what alternatives would there be for us to share videos etc. I think the real question should be - do the repeated ads, when reporting back to the advertiser, count as a single view or multiple views? I'm not so in the know abt some of these things but I gather online ads are based on views/clicks etc - and perhaps the provider sends back stats to the advertiser to say their ad was viewed x million times, etc - in which case these multiple ads should not be reported as unique views. Having said that, I guess the effort to close the ad would be the same the effort to change channels on a TV. Still not a herculean effort. Well, before, the Ad was a ticker at the bottom, no problem with this. What I was experiencing today was a video would start, and after a few seconds pause, and the ad would replace it playing in full screen. This was repeated every 5 minutes as I was watching a playlist, hence it gets irritating as you end up watching the ad repeatedly.

Exactly. A Cheki Cars ad has popped more times then I can count (I mean over 20). Can the ads become more intelligent to know when the user has seen it and closed it at least 2/3 times? The Google trader page opens full screen over what I am watching again and again as I keep closing it. Advertising is supposed to be kind and suggestive not a bludgeon on peoples' heads.
