Are the American Internet Giants Politically Agnostic?
Listers First there there was the hullabaloo about Facebook 'doctoring' its trending feeds and now there is the thingi about Google allegedly tweaking its algorithms to favor Hillary Clinton. If you are like me and have watched Season 4 of House of Cards you can start to begin appreciating how technology companies have come to loom large in political contests. I think its a broad issue that is engrained in the power structure corporates have in the political landscape in the US. If we been following the recent campaign trail (Hillary vs. Sanders) you would notice that Delegates and Super Delegates get to gravitate to Hillary in the primaries - which is the power establishment tends to support Hillary. Word is that the power establishment is strongly tied to corporate interests. The funding sources for political campaigns for these 2 candidates is something worth noting with what you have already raised, Ali. (with Hillary primarily being funded by corporations and Sanders from organizations such as human rights movements). We all understand how powerful tech corporations in the US are not only in the US but also in the global landscape. Even Trump himself has boasted about the fact that he does not get sponsored by the elitist establishments (the corporations in the US), if Sanders is not being primarily funded by these corporate entities who else is Trump really talking about? OK basically I think this not a political discussion. But the way I understand this is that the sad thing about American primaries is that I guess the Delegates and Super Delegates have the power to over-turn the will of the voters in the July convention. I would believe Hillary goes through because of the current pledges made by the delegates. And Sanders basically does not sing their song. Let’s take this offline, if you’d like to learn more about the US system? But just to avoid confusion-I’ve voted in US elections since 1992, and I’ve volunteered for three different campaigns over the years. It’s quite complicated even for those of us who vote in the US to understand, much less trying to follow it from afar! Your understanding of the Democratic primary system is, unfortunately, completely incorrect, both generally and in this specific case. Have a look at the links I posted previously for information about how this system works. Also, for context-Clinton has won over 3 million more votes than Sanders in the primaries thus far. So, the will of the people, as measured by the popular vote, is overwhelmingly for Clinton. Also, even though Sanders is vowing to stay in until July (although he’s amended this in some reports to Tuesday, after the DC primary), we already know who the nominee is, because Clinton already has 800 more delegates than Sanders, and she also has 400 more than she needs to win. There is no way for Sanders to win, unless Clinton drops out of the race. It is, as they say, all over but the shouting, and fortunately, a savage social media game does not necessarily lead to electoral victory. There is no way for Sanders to win, unless Clinton drops out of the race. It is, as they say, all over but the shouting, and fortunately, a savage social media game does not necessarily lead to electoral victory. But just to avoid confusion-I’ve voted in US elections since 1992, and I’ve volunteered for three different campaigns over the years. It’s quite complicated even for those of us who vote in the US to understand, much less trying to follow it from afar! Your understanding of the Democratic primary system is, unfortunately, completely incorrect, both generally and in this specific case. Have a look at the links I posted previously for information about how this system works. Also, for context-Clinton has won over 3 million more votes than Sanders in the primaries thus far. So, the will of the people, as measured by the popular vote, is overwhelmingly for Clinton.
Also, even though Sanders is vowing to stay in until July (although he’s amended this in some reports to Tuesday, after the DC primary), we already know who the nominee is, because Clinton already has 800 more delegates than Sanders, and she also has 400 more than she needs to win. There is no way for Sanders to win, unless Clinton drops out of the race. It is, as they say, all over but the shouting, and fortunately, a savage social media game does not necessarily lead to electoral victory. Which brings me back to the original point of this thread. . .

OK basically I think this not a political discussion. But the way I understand this is that the sad thing about American primaries is that I guess the Delegates and Super Delegates have the power to over-turn the will of the voters in the July convention.
I would believe Hillary goes through because of the current pledges made by the delegates. And Sanders basically does not sing their song. So you are right, Clinton is winning, but we still have to July to know for sure.

But just to avoid confusion-I’ve voted in US elections since 1992, and I’ve volunteered for three different campaigns over the years. It’s quite complicated even for those of us who vote in the US to understand, much less trying to follow it from afar! Your understanding of the Democratic primary system is, unfortunately, completely incorrect, both generally and in this specific case. Have a look at the links I posted previously for information about how this system works. Also, for context-Clinton has won over 3 million more votes than Sanders in the primaries thus far. So, the will of the people, as measured by the popular vote, is overwhelmingly for Clinton.
Also, even though Sanders is vowing to stay in until July (although he’s amended this in some reports to Tuesday, after the DC primary), we already know who the nominee is, because Clinton already has 800 more delegates than Sanders, and she also has 400 more than she needs to win. There is no way for Sanders to win, unless Clinton drops out of the race. It is, as they say, all over but the shouting, and fortunately, a savage social media game does not necessarily lead to electoral victory. Which brings me back to the original point of this thread. . .

OK basically I think this not a political discussion. But the way I understand this is that the sad thing about American primaries is that I guess the Delegates and Super Delegates have the power to over-turn the will of the voters in the July convention.
I would believe Hillary goes through because of the current pledges made by the delegates. And Sanders basically does not sing their song. So you are right, Clinton is winning, but we still have to July to know for sure.

I would rather a system that does not result in deaths, threats or loss of property. In Kenya and Africa at large, we are even shy to debate use of social media because it may incite some. But just to avoid confusion-I’ve voted in US elections since 1992, and I’ve volunteered for three different campaigns over the years. It’s quite complicated even for those of us who vote in the US to understand, much less trying to follow it from afar! Your understanding of the Democratic primary system is, unfortunately, completely incorrect, both generally and in this specific case. Have a look at the links I posted previously for information about how this system works. Also, for context-Clinton has won over 3 million more votes than Sanders in the primaries thus far. So, the will of the people, as measured by the popular vote, is overwhelmingly for Clinton.
Also, even though Sanders is vowing to stay in until July (although he’s amended this in some reports to Tuesday, after the DC primary), we already know who the nominee is, because Clinton already has 800 more delegates than Sanders, and she also has 400 more than she needs to win. There is no way for Sanders to win, unless Clinton drops out of the race. It is, as they say, all over but the shouting, and fortunately, a savage social media game does not necessarily lead to electoral victory. Which brings me back to the original point of this thread. . .

OK basically I think this not a political discussion. But the way I understand this is that the sad thing about American primaries is that I guess the Delegates and Super Delegates have the power to over-turn the will of the voters in the July convention.
I would believe Hillary goes through because of the current pledges made by the delegates. And Sanders basically does not sing their song. So you are right, Clinton is winning, but we still have to July to know for sure.
