I think it is a done deal. Wangusi will get it. He has already been acting and is better at navigating the stormy politics of telcos and media houses than Njoroge was. I don't know much about Omo but it is telling that he was not picked to be acting when Njoroge was shown the door. Njoroge himself was not bad, only he would not fraternize with telco bosses that Waweru was chummy with (and probably did business with). Kiptiness is a straight forward guy who would probably make the best DG among them but he has been away for sometime when he worked for Telkom Kenya. Wangusi it is. Hahaa, Robert. I do think the lawyers are best used as legal officers within the organization. However, CCK is better headed by a technical fellow. Technical people will get the lawyers to address the legalese. Having a lawyer to head, say, Safaricom, wouldn't wash, for sure. Having a lawyer to head an organization that will oversee the likes of Safaricom, etc will only serve to make technical issues take a political direction. Lawyers argue too much:-) About challenging that decision in court, that is a nice one! Kenyans have now started getting accustomed to a constitution that allows them to challenge any decision. Since the Presidency changed from being "above the law", to being under it, the sky is the limit. On Tue, Aug 21, 2012 at 8:18 AM, robert yawe <robertyawe@yahoo.co.uk> wrote:

Hi Washington, CCK is a regulator so how exactly does a techie add value to such a process? It is the technical people who are employed to churn through standards and technologies the CG is supposed to be an interface. A techie will not last, we are intolerant and like people to respond like code which means we are not people people which is clearly seen from how issues are handled on this list. Like Muchiri I feel Kiptinness is the more ideal candidate and I like the fact that he listens. poor lawyers! so misunderstood! But at the end of the day, it is more about personality than profession. there are (layer 8) techies who know how to interface with non techies just as there are lawyers who speak layman. May the best man take the lead. 2012/8/21 robert yawe <robertyawe@yahoo.co.uk>

Robert, It may have been prudent to call for an AGM before such drastic decisions are made. The constitution accords evrybody a right to fair process. We have the opportunity to show what really multistakeholderism means. This where we must be torlerant of every individual no matter what their idea may be. The report has to be approved by the AGM before the Board implements. This is basic governance even in rigid organizations. Ndemo.

Interesting!! This 'campaign' here reminds me of how 'we want to see our own (professionally) making it to the DG post. As a 'mwananchi wa kawaida' my views would be more of a pedestrian, literary. Just as Grace Bomu has said, what matters most is not who, but professionalism - someone who will crack the whip against the errant radio stations, put service providers to task and above all, follow the law to the letter. Sometimes when you look at retired (and very tired) political appointee declaring an interest in governorship, because the fellow thinks of nothing save the title, forgetting that all positions - women representative, county leader, Senator, Governor, MP and even Presidency - are all about service delivery. About the common man interrogating the law, I think there is nothing like that, because a few civil society organizations have assumed the role of the 'unofficial opposition', in the absence of one in the Parliament. The local mwanachi has not yet understood the constitutional implementation process, because politicians have hijacked the whole process - and their silence, means they are likely to disappear into the oblivion. My mwananchi thoughts. :-) On 21/08/2012, bitange@jambo.co.ke <bitange@jambo.co.ke> wrote:
