Hi All, Indeed kudos access kenya for seeing opportunities and not problems. As a matter of fact you have clearly demonstrated the need for even much bigger bandwidth pipes. Back to census, have listers noted the fact that only 3.6% of kenyan households have at least one computer that means 1.5milion only? As you talk of people at the bottom of payramid having use of content just realize they have no access and thats where we should begin. Now access Kenya should pull a quick one, similar to what Zain did the other day - lower their bandwidth costs and up their customer service. I am with an ISP that sold me dedicated bandwidth, but I am on shared. Their customer service experience has to be the worst in this hemisphere. Access Kenya, pull that off, and I will gladly jump ship without a blink! Edwin Sales without Customer Service........is like stuffing money into a pocket full of holes. Hi, The statistic on the number of computers is false, Safaricom is said to have sold over 1 million laptops yet the census results give a figure of approximately 311,000 computers making this statistic ludicrous. Additionally the census sets the number of mobile phones at 5.5 M. This is why we need the census information published so that we can poke holes in it. The presence of computers in the home requires electricity and also a reason for a family to need to buy one. Kenya power has a little over 1 million subscribers which includes businesses, government offices and institutions of learning. Also note that there are only 2.45 house holds with TVs which is a low tech device. Unlike a mobile phone it will be expensive having to take your laptop for charging at the shopping centre everyday especially since we treat solar power as a taboo subject yet the creator has never sent anyone a bill for using the sun. We need relevant content on the TV, a drive to tap solar and wind for power generation, promote LCD & LED screens because they require less power than the CRT devices and can even work on DC power, mobile friendly local web content after which we can look at placing more computers in the home. There's lost of these apps already on www.getjar.com that are compatible for any Java-based phones and I guess what juju.co.ke has done is to take one of those opensourced apps and modified them. Legally and ethically sounds wrong. ./Ok3ch On Thu, Sep 30, 2010 at 3:22 PM, Walubengo J <jwalu@yahoo.com> wrote:

The application, as is marketed, obviously violates the rights of the individual. However, there are numerous use cases for these types of software that do not violate the rights of the individual. For instance, a company that wishes to ensure company cell phones are used only for business purposes can inform users that the phone is monitored. The user is then free to choose how to use the device in the face of this new information. Banning applications of this sort (if it ever comes to that) would be counter productive as we can then argue that monitoring email is a violation of the employee's rights to privacy. Therefore any software that allows organisations to do so would be illegal. There goes Microsoft Exchange :) Kind regards, *Muchiri* Nyaggah Director @muchiri +254 722 506400 Semacraft.com On Fri, Oct 1, 2010 at 4:44 PM, <godera@skyweb.co.ke> wrote:

James, This sounds definitely ingenious! but I wonder does it not infringe on personal privacy? (or general public privacy) since there is no consent from the party being investigated :) SammyG. On Wed, Sep 29, 2010 at 3:15 PM, James Muendo <timrick@gmail.com> wrote:

Check section 31 and 35 of the new constitution with respect to rights to individual privacy. Bill of rights is clear and requires no further definition through further legislation. This is clearly violation of constitutional rights. Ndemo.
