Kipkemoi arap Kirui, In system theory there is feedback and evaluation which informs subsequent inputs. When the output does not meet the expectations, you either change the quality of inputs or revise the processing system. We need some work on our 8-4-4 system.

I guess it is a more serious problem. That of poor foundation and commercialization of our undergraduate programs. Every backstreet building in most towns now houses some university or affiliate college or program. How can all these mushrooming universities and campuses access competent faculty to take our young people through this crucial stage of their lives? How can they access library and other resources? Can we really blame these Kenyans?
I want to ask the Professors and Lecturers here and elsewhere to search their souls and ask themselves whether what is going on in Kenyan universities is sustainable. A large number of our graduating students cannot process simple tasks nor can they engage in intellectual discussions in their 'professional' areas. This week I saw a candidate to the IEBC with a PhD (due respect to her) who barely processed simple questions asked by the Ekuru Aukot Panel.
Let us go back to our universities and 'campuses' and try to understand what really goes on there. Let us check whether in fact in some of these institutions any education is at all taking place.

My personal opinion: For typos online on blogs and all, blame it on the touch screen, predictive text and spell checking whose American English. For print media however, there is absolutely no excuse, except of course copy and paste from online blogs, pages and discussions from tabloid lists. My2Cnts. Ory, I recently posted the mapping of teachers in the country and proved KNUT wrong on their approach to learning in this country. Our pilot test showed that only one of the ten teachers could manage a score of 350. I see a correlation between individual responsibility of teachers and the products we are now getting. Ndemo.

I guess it is a more serious problem. That of poor foundation and commercialization of our undergraduate programs. Every backstreet building in most towns now houses some university or affiliate college or program. How can all these mushrooming universities and campuses access competent faculty to take our young people through this crucial stage of their lives? How can they access library and other resources? Can we really blame these Kenyans?
I want to ask the Professors and Lecturers here and elsewhere to search their souls and ask themselves whether what is going on in Kenyan universities is sustainable. Doctor Ndemo, However much I might agree with you on the issue of teachers, software companies have solved the issue by providing spell and grammar checkers what is so difficult with the editor running the articles through such a check before sending to print. Unless we are saying that they are using rudimentary system which do not have such essentials. I want to ask the Professors and Lecturers here and elsewhere to search their souls and ask themselves whether what is going on in Kenyan universities is sustainable. A large number of our graduating students cannot process simple tasks nor can they engage in intellectual discussions in their 'professional' areas. This week I saw a candidate to the IEBC with a PhD (due respect to her) who barely processed simple questions asked by the Ekuru Aukot Panel.
Let us go back to our universities and 'campuses' and try to understand what really goes on there. Let us check whether in fact in some of these institutions any education is at all taking place.

I guess it is a more serious problem. That of poor foundation and commercialization of our undergraduate programs. Every backstreet building in most towns now houses some university or affiliate college or program. How can all these mushrooming universities and campuses access competent faculty to take our young people through this crucial stage of their lives? How can they access library and other resources? Can we really blame these Kenyans?

Robert, Spell / grammar checker as pointed out will not eliminate the problem under discussion. It is the editor that will identify and hopefully correct the errors. I tend to agree with the position Betty and several others have taken -- it is the 'teaching' that is the problem. One Lister recently pointed out the appalling typos, grammar, spelling errors (among others) in text books. It just really annoys, and sadly affect young learners' language. ICT training for editors, teachers, among others will go a long way in assisting deal with the problem. But of course, we won't expect anyone to "sleep on the job" after the training. Ory, I recently posted the mapping of teachers in the country and proved KNUT wrong on their approach to learning in this country. Our pilot test showed that only one of the ten teachers could manage a score of 350. I see a correlation between individual responsibility of teachers and the products we are now getting.

Kipkemoi arap Kirui, In system theory there is feedback and evaluation which informs subsequent inputs. When the output does not meet the expectations, you either change the quality of inputs or revise the processing system. We need some work on our 8-4-4 system.

I guess it is a more serious problem. That of poor foundation and commercialization of our undergraduate programs. Every backstreet building in most towns now houses some university or affiliate college or program. How can all these mushrooming universities and campuses access competent faculty to take our young people through this crucial stage of their lives? How can they access library and other resources? Can we really blame these Kenyans?
I want to ask the Professors and Lecturers here and elsewhere to search their souls and ask themselves whether what is going on in Kenyan universities is sustainable. A large number of our graduating students cannot process simple tasks nor can they engage in intellectual discussions in their 'professional' areas. This week I saw a candidate to the IEBC with a PhD (due respect to her) who barely processed simple questions asked by the Ekuru Aukot Panel.
Let us go back to our universities and 'campuses' and try to understand what really goes on there. Let us check whether in fact in some of these institutions any education is at all taking place.
