While it would definitely be great to see them use .co.ke domains it is good to take into account the 'netsavyness' of their advisors and cost decisions made by the vendors who provide the websites, strategy etc. At the end of the day, none of these candidates are digital natives and probably one tld is to them as good as another. You don't have to buy many domain names; cyber squatting (also known as domain squatting ) is punishable by law - through ICANN - and hence illegal. The only challenge is that you will have to prove your case in all the involved instances.
