Listers, In recognition of the challenges women and girls face in access to information and access to ICTs, the Communications Commission of Kenya is scheduled to host a two-day workshop with a view to identifying appropriate regulatory mechanisms that would address these challenges. The workshop's theme is "Women Girls and ICT and will take place on 4th -5th June 2013 at the Hilton, Nairobi, starting 8:00 am. Listers, This project seems to have just kicked off on the wrong tangent...was wondering how they would select WHICH primary schools would get the laptops and was shocked to read: >> He (Kaimenyi, Cabinet Sec. for Education) said the availability of electricity and nearness to the main grid was the basis used in deciding the schools selection criteria. But now it looks like if you are lucky to live near an electricity pole, your luck doubles as you get a bonus benefit of a laptop. If you happen to leave very far from one (think Pokot, Turkana, Tana River, Wajir, etc) your tough luck just got tougher. I cant think of a better way of "extending" rather than "bridging" the digital divide.. walu. nb: Mutoro:-sounds like you guys are going to have a very busy year in courts :-)

Ericsson targets girls to power growth of Information Communication Technology

The telecommunications manufacturer Ericsson Kenya has upped its ante in training and funding of more girls in information communication technology ( ICT) courses. The firm hopes this will reduce the growing gender imbalance in the technology sector. NGO moves to court to stop free laptop for schools project

A lobby group has moved to court to stop the government from issuing laptops to pupils joining class one in all public schools claiming the gadgets will cause harm to the environment. But we forget that promises must be kept. Time is ticking and 100 days is such a short time. Jubilee must work at a plan somehow.
