Dear All, There are 2 elements to managing content during watershed periods, this is done particularly well in the MiddleEast. If we have legal requirement then the CCK should enforce this, additionally it also requires maturity from the Broadcasters and the stakeholders involved include the advertisers to provide a self governing model. From an advertisers point what do they want their brand to be associated with? If they are happy with the current association and ploughing their brand with the misappropriate content then it is their call or they can pull out advertisement, this put breaks. CCK, have invested heavily in monitoring technology, and people, are they applying the guidelines provided by our constitution on content? The public, have the option to switch off. Broadcaster Management, we can provide you with the links to technology companies that will provide systems to blackout any language that is out of context on defined key words... Day-time Vulgar Conversations on Kenya Media

Friends I am wondering whether the Media Council and CCK shouldn't step up their act. 2 cases in point: (a) FM radio conversations during the morning commute where one hears vulgar language with explicit descriptions (jocular as they may be) of natural and "unnatural" sex acts, bestiality and the like. And matatus faithfully tune in; and you are in the company of people of all manner of age: school kids, young working professionals, aging mothers/fathers, etc. What a shame! (b) In Nairobi recently, I sat down for afternoon coffee with a friend at a restaurant littered (across the walls) with flat screen TVs. Showing on the channel they had tuned into was a movie with explicit love-making ... imagine the rest. Despite our protestations, the restaurant owner's ears appeared deaf! Some people may say we need self-regulation but as a society we need some standards. We need some labeling of content that guide when it can be broadcast. For instance, adult content should be restricted to the time between 9 pm and 5 am; day time content should, of necessity, be family-friendly. 2-Day ATM Security Workshop July 3rd– 4th, 2013, Nairobi According to Kenyan press, banks in the country lost over Ksh 1.6 billion ($17.5 million) to fraudsters in the last one year. Much of the fraud was perpetuated through ATMs. Outline ATMs are a core component of financial services across the world and ATM use continues to grow. ATMs offer convenience and can be safe if well-designed and used. The continued growth and use makes ATMs targets of opportunity for criminals. New and existing ATMs are a target for fraudsters who use such traditional methods as card and cash trapping and skimming with increasing sophistication. Reports indicate that ATM malware attacks have also led to significant losses recently. Africa, being the new frontier of technology development, has witnessed increased use of ATMs as financial services companies compete for a stake in the market. The continent is experiencing its share of financial-related crimes, including the use of ATM for such crimes. Students are dropping out of school becasue their parents, the school and the government don't care enough to get rid of parasites in their abdomen. Same government wants to give this malnourished child a laptop...
