How about Njeri Rionge given that she was instrumental if not pivotal in making the Internet a commodity in KE? Also, if you cast your net a little wider Yazim Nanji was very pivotal in bringing the Internet to Kenya and managed to run a thriving ISP in an environment that was not friendly at all, both in the business and technical sense. Am afraid that your idea will not work in this situation processors have diversified in there prodiction strategies whereby they venture into longlife milk product such as UHT milk, milk powders hence can last as long as 3 months if ain't wrong. For uht if unexposed to air can last for that long. Unless u sample the milk and open the packaging then open the packaging. Am afraid that the above complain may have arisen out of paying attention to streets demos from critics or the test from unprocessed milk (raw maziwa ya ngombe) am sure no milk processor licensed in this case may risk its market share out of this allegation. I'd preffer a valid lab report be presented to support the arguement. "Nowhere in the world have they raised a stature to honor a critics" i believe those are the words of the late Zig Ziegler. Indeed sources are many, but some specific details can only be found at IEBC. I have heard similar arguments about people who found themselves members of political parties they had never knew before. For a party to list anyone as a member, it needs his/her name, I'd number, voter registration number and constituency details. I don't know any building or even Mpesa agent that asks for voter number or constituency details. Only IEBC those details. Harry, It would be conservative of you to only credit IEBC and the Telcos for this. There is a very high possibility that the MP aspirant of today is refining the 'targeted campaigns' strategy. He/she has access to mobile money transfer transactions records at the shops; retail store transactions databases, of course Telco databases, etc - take all these multivariate data and subject it to some decent data analysis and voila - he/she can establish where you live or even how you are likely going to vote! There has to be wider, well thought out and legislated means of protecting personal data. Not sure if any of the 'grand' manifestos launched in last 1 month touch on this sensitive issue at all. Urgently looking for Maa speakers

Dear Kictanet members. I need your help. I am on the board of a really cool organization that helps digitize African languages. Feb 21, is International Mother Language Day. We are working hard to get as many languages as possible up to the 100 word level, so that we can fully demonstrate to the world what a spectacular system we've developed. I don't know if there is time to get Maa in as a launch language, but we could give it a try. Check out http://kamusi.org/node/259967 to see what will need to be done. If this is too tight a schedule, no worries, we can get started with Maa at any time. But I think that there will be a lot of benefit from being a launch language, because we start fundraising with donors on Feb 22, so languages that are in the system at that point will be the ones that are visible as ready for support. Is there anyone who can work on getting us at least 30 words translated from Maa to English by this date? There *is* limited funding for this. Get back to me soonest. Am sure most food scientist present in the list will find it amusing that milk processors are adding formalin in milk for the purposes of preservation.considering all the approved milk preservasion process like packaging homoniginazation and pasturrization process that milk processors invest in. Such accusation can damage a whole industry and its dependents(farmers employees and other beneficiaries. I only wish that you clarify which milk processors considering that there are many dozens of milk processors from licenced to local unlicensed. Example we have kcc, brookside,sameer and on the other hand distribution from farmer to consumer(direct to consumer) without the value addition process which are more likely to be the culprits ( maziwa ya ngombe) unlike. Slaying the Tribal Monster!

Listers, I can't resist but share my pain....that indeed the media can entertain "raw tribal discussions" on live TV! While one may argue that it's reality and we must deal with it, if it divides us and tears us apart, why not pursue other alternatives?...why not take advantage of this defining moment in our history (backed by the current constitution) to build a NEW FOUNDATION and help the country "unlearn" these bad habits that we've been socialized into over the years and has taken us no-where? It's possible to "unlearn"!! The good bible tells us "teach thy children the ways of the Lord and they shall never depart from it"....in the same vein "feed Kenyans with positive vibes and we shall build a stronger and more united country" Media (which forms this important industry represented on this list) is well aware that by their very nature, they "set the agenda and shape public opinion". You have a huge responsibility to play in carving a great future for Kenya, stand up and resist ethnic division in this country. We must build our nation based on development concerns and address issues dear to the hearts of Kenyans. When last time (2007/2008), Bwana Ndemo gave his opinion (official or non-official) about the role the media played in 2007, I wonder if he wasn't right? Where is NCIC? Where is the Media Council? This madness has to stop! Edith (my heart is bleeding for Kenya).

Forming digital democracy team

Dear Kictanet colleagues I am proposing we form a digital democracy team for the upcoming Kenyan elections. The 2013 elections are likely to be contentious. Of course we all pray that they will be safe and peaceful. Further however, these elections are going to use ICTs such as phones, computers, cell phones, SMS, radio, TV and other technologies at an unprecedented scale. It would be fascinating to find out what impact, positive and negative these technologies have. The kind of study I am envisioning will also increase accountability of polling officials. Who wants to work with me to develop a survey and collect data at their polling station? Perhaps we can use the kictanet secretariat, or a room in Jacaranda to coordinate our activities. Or perhaps google or some other company on this list will volunteer a room?
