ATTN: ICT BOARD MEMBER/S IN THIS LIST( SayNo to OOXML)
Dear Colleagues, I have been deeply grieved by the silence that has surrounded, this matter...How do we talk about growth and development in ICT,if we do not talk about software? A few questions that I have for the Board and a response will be highly appreciated: 1.what steps have the ICT BOARD taken in regard to the matter,on the link below. http://www.noooxml.org/ having in mind that it is less than a week...to final decision 2.What is Kenya's,position? More voice to this reason http://www.groklaw.net/article.php?story=20080312151954507 Kind Regards, -- Judy Ann Okite, +254-721237507,+254-734252336 P.O. BOX 2228 00100, NAIROBI,KENYA. Judy, your links are too detailed for the top shots on this list. Maybe you or Muthoni can break this down in simple english in terms of: 1. What is this animal called OOXML standard? 2. What will it mean if Microsoft gets the International Community (ISO) to adopt it? Then maybe thereafter you can ask for the Kenyan position. Infact it would be good to know if Kenya will be voting in Geneva this week on the same. It will be a pleasant suprise to know that Kenya will there and have a defendable position ;-) walu. --- Judy Okite <judyokite@gmail.com> wrote:

Thnx Sir, Muthoni has put it in the simpliest English, just to add on to answer Q2 On 3/24/08, John Walubengo <jwalu@yahoo.com> wrote:

these are but some of the issues we will be faced with: a) If OOXML is adopted, it leads to a problem of duplicate formats for document exchange. b) The cost to the industry of having to support multiple standards would be a gross misuse of taxpayer's money. c) It will be fully implemented by M$ only and we all know what this means. Kind Regards, Then maybe thereafter you can ask for the Kenyan position.
