Prof. I shall be out of the country. I hope you will share the findings in an electronic format. A similar study by Rokefeller shall be presented on the same day. Theirs will mostly focus on outsourcing to digital villages as a means to reduce poverty. This concept is referred to as "impact outsourcing". Regards Ndemo. Bwana Ndemo, The study Tim describes is a rigorous research study undertaken over 3 years (using panel data) to provide empirical evidence as to whether or not ICTs reduce poverty (examining poverty from a multi-dimensional perspective - income; human capital/capability; inclusion; vulnerability; services; assets and a new concept called "digital poverty"). It is "cutting edge" work and one of its kind in the world! It covers 4 East African countries (Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda) - so East Africa will be among the first to provide defensable evidence on the link between ICTs and Poverty. We hope to share the regional study results to put the Kenyan study in context. I think there are some very useful policy recommendations which will be of interest to Governments in the region. regards Edith ________________ Edith Ofwona Adera Senior Program Specialist ICT4D Program and Climate Change & Water Program International Development Research Centre | Centre de recherches pour le développement international Regional Office for Eastern and Southern Africa Tel: +254202713160 | Fax/Téléc: +254202711063 | Skype: edithadera [email protected] | www.idrc.ca | www.crdi.ca ________________________________________ From: [email protected] [[email protected]] On Behalf Of [email protected] [[email protected]] Sent: 27 November 2010 11:52 To: Edith Adera Cc: KICTAnet ICT Policy Discussions Subject: Re: [kictanet] Invitation to a stakeholder workshop on ICT and povertyon 2nd December 2010 at 9.00 a.m. Prof. I shall be out of the country.
