Day 2 Talk2Facebook ~ Data Protection
Dear Lister! Trusting you are well, a great appreciation to all who shared their views on Day 1! We are on Day 2 of “Talk2Facebook”, today we focus on Data Protection Issues. Kenya enacted its Data Protection & Privacy Act in 2019 where the rights of individuals (data subjects) have been enhanced. Share your comments, experiences, and challenges with regard to Facebook Services along the following themes: a) Have you managed to exercise your right to access and port (move) all your data that you ever posted on FB? b) Have you managed to exercise your right to be forgotten, where you demand FB deletes all the digital footprint they have about? c) Have you managed to exercise your right to modify or restrict the consent you previously granted to FB? You can still comment on yesterday’s topic under that thread. Otherwise, we hope to hear all your concerns around Data Protection today on this thread so tomorrow we discuss “Human Rights & Transparency” matters. Wonderful Thursday! *As the adage goes, "the internet doesn't forget". Many have been adversely affected in their careers and or personal lives over stands they held as younger immature individuals. Despite have made a step out of those stands, the past inadvertently comes back to haunt them through an FB post. The documentary " Facebook follies" has some examples.*
c) Have you managed to exercise your right to modify or restrict the consent you previously granted to FB?
*This goes far beyond only that given to FB. There has been instances of love affairs gone south and a one decides to "punish" the other by posting very personal photos. On the other side there are those fake accounts that use other people's identities eg photo to purport to be them, FB has many a time failed to act and people's lives have been messed. *

Thank you for this opportunity. As a person who speaks truth to power and who uses Facebook as one of the platforms for this, I use a VPN to safeguard my connections and data. One of the mobile VPN is Orbort, a TOR Project App. Tor works by switching to different servers across the world which means device IPs keep changing. This results in Facebook occasionally asking me to verify logins from a different country, which I do through two factor authentication. My question is, why does FB then require me to change my password EVERY TIME this happens, even after verification of identity using two factor authentication? Thank you Twahir, Mutemi & Walu for your input. We hope the FB Personnel on the list will respond to
some of the issues you have raised.
Indeed we thought this particular topic on Data Protection will elicit more responses than we've got,
the floor is still open and you don't necessarily need to respond to the set questions, you can raise any
other issue around Data Protection of Facebook.
Tomorrow we talk about "Human Rights & Transparency". Thank you all!

Share your comments, experiences, and challenges with regard to Facebook Services along the following themes:
a) Have you managed to exercise your right to access and port (move) all your data that you ever posted on FB?
b) Have you managed to exercise your right to be forgotten, where you demand FB deletes all the digital footprint they have about?
c) Have you managed to exercise your right to modify or restrict the consent you previously granted to FB?
You can still comment on yesterday’s topic under that thread. Otherwise, we hope to hear all your concerns around Data Protection today on this thread so tomorrow we discuss “Human Rights & Transparency” matters.
Wonderful Thursday!
Rest of the Program:
Day 3: Human Rights & Transparency
Day 4: Connectivity & Wrap Up
Warm Regards,

Responding to Walu's question,I think the Kenyan government still has not put proper legal channels when demanding information about private Kenyan users from Facebook.According Facebook policies , they don't respond to requests not channelled through formal legal process initiated.Powered by Cricket Wireless -------- Original message --------From: Kelvin Kariuki via kictanet <kictanet@lists.kictanet.or.ke> Date: 9/17/20 1:59 PM (GMT-05:00) To: wachiranancy91@yahoo.com Cc: Kelvin Kariuki <kelvinkariuki89@gmail.com>, Kelvin Kariuki via kictanet <kictanet@lists.kictanet.or.ke> Subject: Re: [kictanet] Day 2 Talk2Facebook ~ Data Protection Thank you Twahir, Mutemi & Walu for your input.
