Yes, interesting that the industry is on the humane approach now. It all goes back after going round and round..... What techworld is learning now is that the traditional values, traditional ethics still apply and are expected of business. Notwithstanding what one believes that they believe in, the basis of creation still goes back to what is good for humanity. Even the first Creator made for good. Traditional business sectors have steered away from this with we industry moguls, governments authorities and business closing an eye for the profit. e.g medical; fake and harmful drugs, manufacturing; fake , Agri; fake harmful produce, value chain; unaccountable. Why this deserves due attention is because a heavy price has been paid by the citizens - ignorant, unaware, too overwhelmed, who rely on their governments to protect them. Be blessed. What caught my eye here is the recognition that we can create apps, networks, content, and other stuff. But what to do with those things - including whether to film a woman being violated before a cheering audience, then to share that video with others - is not only a legal question, but also an ethical/moral one. MIT has chosen to embed an ethical consciousness around tech among its students. I'm sure they also have ethics classes somewhere in the curriculum. But taking it to the chaplaincy also says that ethics is not only about the classroom, it is about life. The violation video shows that in Kenyan society, we sometimes choose to use tech insensitively, unfairly, disrespectfully, violently, and irresponsibly. Those are ethical/moral decisions, even if unconscious. But how to establish that greater ethical awareness among us all? Maybe we need to change what we do, teach and model at home. In school, an emphasis on the humanities - e.g. art, literature, social studies, religious education - should also help our citizens to engage in deeper reflection and critical thinking starting from a young age. Wambui, It is also empowering to think about ethics outside of religion. This gives space for reasoning on the effects of decisions we make, and not just their origin. It is also a more inclusive frame as it is for all humans. Yes, we need to start from early ages and across disciplines.
