M-pesa not working - resilience mechanisms needed

Today, Safaricom M-pesa has not been working. M-Pesa has been successful in promoting financial inclusion, especially for marginalized communities. M-pesa is a widely used mobile payment system in Kenya, and the government has based many of its payments on this platform. Local governments also base their rates and parking collection on M-pesa. Which other services use M-pesa as the only mode of payment? The downtime of M-pesa raises concerns about the country's dependence on a single payment platform and the need for resilience mechanisms for this critical national infrastructure. To mitigate the risks of downtime, it may be wise to consider additional payment systems and ensure that the existing infrastructure is robust and secure. That the govt favors M-Pesa is a problem, I think. While the citizens haven't quite embraced Airtel Money and Telkom's T-Kash and Quitel Money, the govt should base it's payment systems on ALL of them. -- Best regards, Odhiambo WASHINGTON, Nairobi,KE +254 7 3200 0004/+254 7 2274 3223 "Oh, the cruft.", egrep -v '^$|^.*#' ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ :-) [How to ask smart questions: http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html]
