Dear all FYI and some of you might want to take up the sponsorship opportunity provided for this event. See below
Hi Alice, Would appreciate if you could include the International Conference on e-learning, known as e-Learn Africa (eLA) to be held in Addis Abeba May 24 - 26, 2006. this will be a major event. I did circulate the other important links such as the bursary link to KICTANET members. I hope you saw this. All the best for this year. Leonard
Dear All,
I am contacting you with regard to eLearning Africa, the 1st international conference on ICT for development, education and training to be held in the UNCC in Addis Ababa from May 24 - 26, 2006.
eLearning Africa has been conceived as an annual Pan-African event that will take the same approach as the very successful conference series Online Educa Berlin and Online Educa Madrid (www.online-educa.com and www.online-educa-madrid.com). These events involve experts and practitioners in e-learning from all over the world; Berlin's last conference - now in its 11th year - attracted over 1890 delegates from 73 countries and included 103 sessions and workshops with 473 speakers from 53 countries, and involved all the major organisations and associations in the field of distance learning and e-learning.
eLearning Africa intends to become the African eLearning capacity building event and - at the same time - a forum for all stakeholders engaged in the planning and implementation of technology-supported learning and training on the African continent. Intended as a uniquely African event reflecting the issues faced by those interested in harnessing technology to support education and training throughout the continent to meet the challenges faced by African people, eLearning Africa will bring together those active in the eLearning sector throughout the continent as well as people interested in collaborating with Africans to exploit the opportunities afforded by ICT in the education and training field.
Under the patronage of the H.E. Tefera Waluwa, Minister of Capacity Building Ethiopia, supported by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa and the European Commission, eLearning Africa is certain to become the target destination of Africa's educational decision makers and practitioners in governments, public and private education and corporate HRD. The event will offer a unique opportunity to gain invaluable insights into the latest activities and achievements from the ever-evolving eLearning world. It is planned as an annual event which will take place in a different African country each year.
Most development and donor organisations have already recognised the value that ICT can bring to the education and training process, whether this is with regard to upskilling central services and government provision, providing access to desperately needed expertise and advice or to specifically meet a need like supporting basic in-service teacher training through ICT supported distance learning. There can be little argument that Africa cannot afford to miss out on the information revolution. eLearning Africa plans to play its part by providing a real face-to-face opportunity for African eLearning experts and enthusiasts to meet and exchange experiences and discuss issues, to bring the best expertise available in the international eLearning community to Africa and ! to provide an exciting and sustainable event that can grow in tandem with the African eLearning community in the years to come.
We would like to involve international development and donor organisations who are already supporting or planning to support educational and training projects in Africa, since we believe that you represent a key stakeholder in the drive towards a better future for the African continent.
We are therefore looking for you to support African participation in the form of bursaries. Bursaries would cover the participation fees, accommodation and perhaps in some cases travel costs of those African delegates who cannot afford to attend, but - due to their involvement in the education process - should be there, as this will help them in their work on the ground to achieve the Education for All goal.
The costs per person for participating and accommodation will be approx. 450 Euros. At present we are collecting questionnaires from potential participants who need funding, these will be evaluated and awarded by the conference Advisory Committee (www.elearning-africa.com/partner_advisory.php). Furthermore different organisations and associations involved in ICT supported education in Africa will be identifying potential participants who they will put forward for funding. We are hoping to be able to fund between 300 - 400 participants and are looking at different sources for funding.
Of course! we also welcome your input in terms of direct registration of people with whom you are already working in Africa who you think should attend this event and are very happy to work with you in this regard.
In return for your support, we will mention your organisation on our web site, in press releases and in all our outgoing material. Furthermore should you be directly involved in ICT supported education in Africa, we also welcome your input to the conference programme, as we will be including sessions devoted to development organisations and eLearning..
Any ideas that you may have for benefits that you would find useful are most welcome. Attached you will find a form that you can use to enquire about further information with regard to the bursaries and additional information.
More information on eLearning Africa can be found at www.eLearning-Africa.com.
Yours sincerely,
Rebecca Stromeyer Conference Organizing Committtee
