Re: [kictanet] @CA and @KENIC, what became of the regulations on registering devices for public WiFi?

Hello Listers Looking at the timeframe of that article when it was written, is it safe to assume the proposed regulation has clearly not yet been implemented unless it was done covertly? Interesting point I noted regarding the posited national device registry, are there other such registries already in existence (either belonging to telecom operators, national immigration etc) and if so who has access to the data on them, and can citizens control the data held on them? Knowing that operators like Safaricom and KRA already have all our details including number of mobile phones we bought/or brought into the country, aren't such types of depository already a form of passive digital surveillance On Jan 30, 2017 11:05, "Barrack Otieno via kictanet" < kictanet@lists.kictanet.or.ke> wrote: Hi Nanjira, The reporting is somewhat questionable. KeNIC has a clear mandate as Adminisrative and Technical Manager of the .KE Registry. Registering devices is way out of its mandate. The Regulator can easily monitor device owners if it wanted through Service Providers, most network equipment have the capability to do this work using their simple dashboards hence i don't see the need for a specialized entity.
