Safaricom starts Sh20 a day loan for buying smartphones
Dear Listers, Safaricom from Tuesday will start selling smartphones on credit to its subscribers who will make daily payments of as little as Sh20 a day for up to a year dubbed Lipa Mdogo Mdogo. This is a novel idea from the telco in ensuring the 'access gap is closed" The CEO Peter Ndegwa says it will enable users to access 4G. https://bit.ly/2EnOOew As this unfolds, the issue of: 1. affordability 2. right infrastructure - power 3. What are competitors doing? Will still need to be addressed going forward. *Kind Regards,* *David Indeje * +254 (0) 711 385 945 | +254 (0) 734 024 856
These must be specifically for ''Low-End Priced phones''. In a year 20*365 = KES 7,300/= Hopefully, they have thought of a formula for Hign End Phones also. Safaricom can reap on this if thought out properly. *Thank you.* *Kind Regards,* *Alvin Ochola* *Manager* *Greenline Technology Limited* *ICT SOLUTIONS * *sales@greenline.co.ke <sales@greenline.co.ke>* *Direct Lines: * *0733-610-758* *0722-219-938* *Call or Whatsapp* *Nairobi, Kenya* On Mon, 27 Jul 2020 at 10:54, David Indeje via kictanet < kictanet@lists.kictanet.or.ke> wrote:

Alvin It's unlikely 'high-end" phones will be sold like that. But I do get your phone. Way back when Telkom was Telkom 😀 I got an iPhone on a 2-year contract. Basically it came with a data, voice plan for I think 6k a month. For two years. The great thing about the plan was that I was spending that amount or more anyway per month. I don't mean to tell Safaricom how to do their business but most Telcos in Europe and the US have these contracts for their 'high-end' phones. Not sure why Safaricom doesn't have such plans. Hi Ali, What I meant they have a 'sale' plan too for high end phones separately from the 20 bob promotion. Safaricom employees have always had (as far back as I can remember) an option to buy high end phones on a monthly payment plan. Personally, I would never buy a phone on 'credit terms', but that's just me :-) *Thank you.* *Kind Regards,* *Alvin Ochola* *Manager* *Greenline Technology Limited* *ICT SOLUTIONS * *sales@greenline.co.ke <sales@greenline.co.ke>* *Direct Lines : Call or Whatsapp* *0733-610-758* *0722-219-938* *Nairobi, Kenya* On Tue, 28 Jul 2020 at 06:19, Ali Hussein <ali@hussein.me.ke> wrote:

Hi David,
Thanks for sharing this. I'm certain that there will be great benefits accrued from giving more Kenyans access to internet enabled devices. We have been beneficiaries of access to the digital world and I can only imagine how several lives will be transformed through this.
From your list above affordability has been sorted, it is my hope that other stakeholders like electricity providers can also work harder to ensure the provision of peripheral services that Kenyans rely on for connectivity. Also it would be great to see further utilisation of USF to promote connectivity.
Kind regards,

Ali,
During the pilot phase for this proposition, we were told it will have bundled benefits, data, minutes. I hope it has not changed.

It's unlikely 'high-end" phones will be sold like that.

These must be specifically for ''Low-End Priced phones''.
In a year 20*365 = KES 7,300/=
Hopefully, they have thought of a formula for Hign End Phones also.
Safaricom can reap on this if thought out properly.

Dear Listers,
Safaricom from Tuesday will start selling smartphones on credit to its subscribers who will make daily payments of as little as Sh20 a day for up to a year dubbed Lipa Mdogo Mdogo.
This is a novel idea from the telco in ensuring the 'access gap is closed" The CEO Peter Ndegwa says it will enable users to access 4G. https://bit.ly/2EnOOew
As this unfolds, the issue of:
1. affordability 2. right infrastructure - power 3. What are competitors doing?
Will still need to be addressed going forward.
