Is the Egypt Crisis an Opening for Kenya’s Nascent Outsourcing Industry?
Hey all, Someone raised this question recently and I thought I'd ask Bobby Varanasi, the outsourcing expert, and his thoughts are here: http://www.ratio-magazine.com/201102113838/Kenya/Is-the-Egypt-Crisis-an-Open... Hi Andrea, Excellent idea to seek input from Industry experts such as Bobby. An observation that he has made that many of us both in government and Industry have failed to tackle is "streamlining the workings between government (e.g. the KICTB & the PMs BPO working group - with the vision 2030 secretariat's facilitation) and the Industry. The early years of disillusionment by entrepreneurs to sustain their venture into the industry has a lot to do with a weak industry body, and hence the domino effect of not realizing what Bobby has highlighted. So the question becomes, where do we go from here? Hey I think its too early to make a good call on this one Alot about Egypt (reputation, stability etc) is still in the air. It will take some time before things settle. That said, Kenya is not in a position to benefit. We are still quite behind ... with only a few BPOs in operation in a very disillusioned sector My two cents On Mon, Feb 14, 2011 at 11:52 AM, Andrea Bohnstedt < andrea.bohnstedt@ratio-magazine.com> wrote:

Whats interesting is that a predominately Arab speaking country gets all that BPO work. Perhaps its the numbers that are on the net that count e.g. they have 5 million on Facebook. Egypt's reputation is now greatly boosted by the widely covered non violent revolution. Also, it's the country that other Arab countries look up to for culture, education (read IT) and other trends. So they are likely to stabilise sooner rather than later. Question is..what advancement will Kenya have had in the meantime? -- Soko ID Co.
