OK...Congrats to the rest. However, I used to think board membership should end up being an odd number to break the tie if need be. I see the list here is five with the Chair that would be six. Maybe we can sneak in Alex to make up the 7th member ;-)? walu. --- Rebecca Wanjiku <[email protected]> wrote:

Congratulations to all the Board members!! On the other hand, It's amazing how Dr. Florence Etta was not given the opportunity to be nominated and/or participate on the Board!!! As one of the key founders of KICTANET and the name and having contributed extensively to ICT as a whole in everyway!!!! Have we forgotten so fast!!! With no disrespect intended to anyone, but I must ask - Is this the Kenyan way of doing things??? I am sure most of you will agree that at least Florence should have been nominated or asked to participate as a board member. It was then upto her to decide if she was interested to or not, and of course then, the voting or whatever would have been done to determine the members, or so I would think. Is this what everyone agreed to?? would be good to know. Sorry but its always hard for people to be upfront, truthful and bold enough to ask and I think it's only fair to raise this. What method was used to select the board members??? Important for all to be informed. Thanks to all best regards On 8/10/07, Rebecca Wanjiku <[email protected]> wrote:

Lizette, FE's contribution to ICT in Kenya is quite exceptional and outstanding. However, when it comes to sitting on non-elective boards, other factors tend to override. The legislation (Gazette Notice) for the Kenya ICT board and other similar boards accross the world leaves the search and appoint procedures at the pleasure of the President and his respective minister. Now, in a market with excessive ICT and related talent like Kenya, one can only understand if some qualified members miss out (including me maybe? ;-) Nevertheless, what matters is if the new board can deliver the anticipated benefits within reasonable timeframes. And I believe the six or seven of them will not succeed without the input the likes of FE et al. walu. --- Lizette Kraft <[email protected]> wrote:

Hi Walu, No one ever had the thought that there wasn't other talent out there, but considering she was a founder of the organisation or whatever it is known as, should have at least given it some consideration don't you think. As I said, we don't know how the board was put together, whether through nomination or whatever, (some of us didn't see this at all to even comment on), but besides that what other factors where there that overrode the process???? It is fair to be transparent about this don't you think?? I am not dismissing what the other members have said and I agree that everyone should continue to support the cause, but some of these things happened in the most strangest of ways and no one asked any questions!! Again, I ask, is this the Kenyan way!!! (In case you didn't know, I am fully Kenyan - born and bred!!). thanks and appreciate the responses although they haven't answered my curiosity and concern. regards On 8/13/07, David Sparrow Malaba <[email protected]> wrote:

Hi Walu, This is a Contentious issue, do we have a facility that can allow us to vote on this list?, maybe the issue could be adressed in a better way if there existed such a facility. I guess Lizette is right "democratically" Those are my thoughts On 8/13/07, Lizette Kraft <[email protected]> wrote:

FE's contribution to ICT in Kenya is quite exceptional and outstanding. However, when it comes to sitting on non-elective boards, other factors tend to override.
The legislation (Gazette Notice) for the Kenya ICT board and other similar boards accross the world leaves

If I look carefully..I see a common trend in ensuring various representative groups such as TESPOK, KICTANET, CCK and ICT Federation are included as opposed to individuals. But I specifically like the inclusion of Kevit because of his initiatives aimed at tapping young university grads/students into the ICT world...as opposed to old hands..who should now be giving way to vijana.. My Pesa Nane.
Richard Bell - TESPOK Catherine Adeya - Coordinator of KICTANet (Kenya ICT Action Network). Peter Kimacia - Chief Executive of ICTvillage.com Kevit Desai - ICT Federation Kiptiness from CCK.

I believe the board members have terms and more people will have an opportunity to serve in future. The board is new and it is not necessarily that membership is on reward basis. Its about work! We shall be definitely challenging. Thats how i see it. Muthoni On 8/13/07, Lizette Kraft <[email protected]> wrote:
Hi Walu,
No one ever had the thought that there wasn't other talent out there, but considering she was a founder of the organisation or whatever it is known as, should have at least given it some consideration don't you think.

True that, but while we acknowledge that the industry and CCK have been talking for a while now, and do have a cosy thing going, we agreed on this forum that the Consumer has been missing from the table. What I would have been happy to see was a strong consumer advocate, and while it may not necesarily be Alex, at least somebody who can clearly be identified as the consumer advocate should have been included on the ICT Board.

I agree with Walu, i urge those who not appointed including walu to keep up with the good work they are doing for the sector the real leaders at times are always in the audience
Lizette,
FE's contribution to ICT in Kenya is quite exceptional and outstanding. However, when it comes to sitting on non-elective boards, other factors tend to override.
The legislation (Gazette Notice) for the Kenya ICT board and other similar boards accross the world leaves
search and appoint procedures at the pleasure of
President and his respective minister. Now, in a market with excessive ICT and related talent like Kenya, one can only understand if some qualified members miss out (including me maybe? ;-)
Nevertheless, what matters is if the new board can deliver the anticipated benefits within reasonable timeframes. And I believe the six or seven of them will not succeed without the input the likes of FE et al.

Sorry but its always hard for people to be upfront, truthful and bold enough to ask and I think it's only fair to raise

I agree that it is on work basis and all the more reason to have looked at what was done by the founders!!!! Wonder which part of work is recognised as good and which is not adequate!! No one talked about reward basis!! All the work the Kictanet members have done and contributed to have been hard work and therefore I don't see how the reward factor comes in..
