Barrack, Just joined the mailinglist. The last time I was on the ISOC website,I was shocked that Kenyan members were too few that we did not meet the threshold to form a local chapter yet Rwanda had an ISOC chapter? Let's get this done, Kenya should have had an ISOC Chapter years ago. The South African chapter is quite active and has been operating for decades now and I think it's time for ISOC Kenya! It would be a rich (and necessary) addition to the existing menu of fora for discussing the direction of internet in our country. I look forward to our first meeting! I have been in the frontline championing for a ISOC chapter in Kenya. I even hinted on this mailing list about the same some time back. I think Alice is aware of it. I will be the first one to attend the meeting to chart the way forward to form a Kenyan chapter. This is indeed a good move in the right direction. It is great that someone has taken a step towards the realisation of a local ISOC chapter. Thanks Barrack and others! I join others in supporting this initiative. Go ISOC Kenya! Grace. On 28 July 2011 11:57, Chelimo Ken <ken@kenyatelecentres.org> wrote:

Dear Colleagues,
There has been growing interest on various lists to have a local ISOC Chapter up and running, we have had many Kenyans participate in ISOC programs as fellows, unfortunately we haven't had a forum where we can share the knowledge and experiences gained through the fellowship opportunities. The purpose of this email is to invite all interested parties to join a mailing list that has been created to bring together interested stakeholders so that we can deliberate on how to establish an open and inclusive ISOC chapter that will be based on a multistakeholder model. Kindly note

I think the best way forward is to get the names of all those who are already ISOC members then arrange for a meeting to form a chapter. A requirement to form a chapter is having several like-minded persons to form one - in this case those who are already members and impress upon more people to register. Thanks Chelimo and Steve, that is why we created the ISOC_ke list, one of the requirements of a chapter before it can be accepted is that it has to be all inclusive , let's shift our discussion from Kictanet to the ISOC list to avoid diverting listers attention, I think the message is out there and the response has been wonderfull.
