Congratulations to my former lecturer, @jwalu, on his appointment to the taskforce! Blockchain will definitely increase the level of accountability in governance and public spending. It's encouraging to see the government embracing the technology and taking steps to incorporate it in its operations. We would glad to contribute to the task force on Block chain. Kindly set up a forum for the community to take part in its development. The list of applications that can end up in the blockchain are endless. It has far reaching implications in every industry. It takes care of our health records, land transactions, law enforcement and many others. Imagine have a smart contracts system running on Blockchain in Kenya. I just hope that people will let go their traditional ways of doing things. Cheserek. On Wed, Feb 28, 2018 at 2:23 PM, Ngigi Waithaka via kictanet < kictanet@lists.kictanet.or.ke> wrote:

Congratulations to the team. Blockchain can produce a single source of truth (SSoT) as our CS Mucheru puts it. I like that name. Despite that, there will not be any meaningful change in our systems if we don't address one thing. The human interface layer.... more so integrity.... For example, if the land registry, is migrated to the blockchain, it may initially start with lies, depending on current emotive land issues, and prominent politicians insatiable appetite for grabbing land. If people who have the prerogative to post into such systems are compromised by such powerful individuals, they will make sure the system does not work, or the information posted is not correct. IEBC and elections anyone? I'm a believer in systems, and solving problems. For that, we have already developed a blockchain application for academic qualifications for universities. This removes problem of universities repudiating qualifications of prominent politicians and Chief Executives. Here is a sample output of a certificate written on the blockchain, https://gateway.ipfs.io/ipfs/QmUPdewcjsiwz6dJvPAnFCLTj7X2F2HHZ5hKBwBaoiGWny Good luck to the team, and pongezi CS Mucheru for ensuring the word "Blockhain" and "Artificial intelligence" gets into the President's speech. This is no mean feat. Regards, Mwendwa Kivuva.
Congratulations to the team, I look forward to fruitful engagements. Blockchain is not a panacea as most of us know - One needs to be absolutely sure as its slow and requires a lot of computation and ofcourse the complexity bit. As a rule of thumb always consider the following: 1. Network: Will there be a significant number of participants in the network. Do you trust them? 2. Perfromance: Do you need to store a limited amount of data for every transaction. Will there be need to scale? 3. Business Logic: Is privacy important? Will the system be stand alone? Does it need to access external data / Integrate into existing IT? 4. Consensus: Will there be an arbitrator in car of dispute, Do you need strict immutability, Should all participants be involved in the validity of transactions? It is true that blockchain is not a panacea. It however solves specific problems that cannot be resolved by the traditional methods. Well developed blockchain systems do not need trust to operate. It is not about trusting the network. It is about using software codes on the network that are immutable and cannot be changed, without consensus and due procedure. There are existing global networks that people can ran their networks on such as the Etherium ERC 20 Token of the EOS token. The question is are we ready to accept to be controlled fully by machines?
Here is a sample output of a certificate written on the blockchain, https://gateway.ipfs.io/ipfs/QmUPdewcjsiwz6dJvPAnFCLTj7X2F2H HZ5hKBwBaoiGWny
Good luck to the team, and pongezi CS Mucheru for ensuring the word "Blockhain" and "Artificial intelligence" gets into the President's speech. This is no mean feat.

@Kukubo, AI & Machine Learning have been part of CompSc/IT/Comp Tech/EEE local curricula over the last 10years - so no problem. Blockchain & IoT, obviously not. But the youngsters would only require to overcome a paradigm shift that allows them to apply their current programming concepts & principles onto the emerging platforms. walu.
