Dear All
Thank you very much for the congratulatory messages. Although I have not received official confirmation, apart from a phone call from the Ministry's office I believe this appointment is in recognition of the work of the Kenya ICT Action Network (KICTANET) a multi stakeholder forum, consisting of civil society, academia, private sector, media, youth, gender groups and development partners.
I must also congratulate the Kenya government for acknowledging that the complexities of meeting the challenges of ICTs as an enabler of sustainable development requires bringing together major stakeholders in a new form of decision finding, decision-making and communication. I hope this will provide an opportunity for a truly participatory process.

For those who may not have heard yet, the Government today appointed a new board at CCK, while at the same time reshuffling various positions in the industry:
TESPOK is pleased to see a new board in place as this will allow for the resumption of industry activities. The role change the Government has made between the regulator and the incumbent is an interesting twist to the "CCK-saga".
It is our view that this could result in a much speedier decision making process and understanding of the sector as a whole from both arms of the government.
The appointment of members from the civil society, to the board also signals the government willingness to listening to the sector. As regards the independence of the board and the CCK as a whole, we have assurance from the government that this will be maintained and therefore can only wait to see the outcome.
The changes and appointments are as follows;
POSTAL CORPORATION CHAIRMAN: - GENERAL (RTD) PETER KARIUKI - FORMER CCK CHAIRMAN
TELKOM KENYA: MANAGING DIRECTOR - SAMMY KIRUI - FORMER CCK DG
CCK - DIRECTOR GENERAL - ENG JOHN WAWERU - FORMER TKL MD
DIRECTORS: - CHARLES OGALO - YUSUF CHANZU - JOHN MUSENGI - WILLIAM KAMOTI - ALICE MUNYUA

I'd like to join everyone in congratulating Alice on her appointment to the CCK Board. I am sure she's play a very crucial role on that board if what she's been doing so far is anything to go by. However, OTOH, the swapping of places for the chairman and the CEOs of Telkom and CCK kinda doesn't look nice! It's like someone is preparing to give Telkom a vantage position to operate from! Think about it. We want liberalization of the communications sector, but I am not sure the changes made recently have anything positive towards that goal, except for the appointment of Alice, of course. Alice, congratulations once again and please go into that board with the determination to make liberalization of the ICT sector to see the light of the day. -Wash http://www.netmeister.org/news/learn2quote.html -- +======================================================================+ |\ _,,,---,,_ | Odhiambo Washington <wash@wananchi.com> Zzz /,`.-'`' -. ;-;;,_ | Wananchi Online Ltd. www.wananchi.com |,4- ) )-,_. ,\ ( `'-'| Tel: +254 20 313985-9 +254 20 313922 '---''(_/--' `-'\_) | GSM: +254 722 743223 +254 733 744121 +======================================================================+ San Francisco isn't what it used to be, and it never was. -- Herb Caen
