Wambui, You really sound like u applied for and seriously want this DG job ;-) Anyway, picking from their website, http://www.cck.go.ke/html/news.asp?newsid=262&area=new <<The acting CCK Director-General, Peris Nkonge, read the ITU Secretary General’s message for the Day <17th May 2008> during the official opening of the Forum and the exhibition.>> It appears Peris Nkonge is still acting DG for CCK. But keep watching for the 'white-smoke' am sure it has to legally happen sooner or later. walu. --- On Wed, 6/4/08, wambui jane <wambui@live.co.uk> wrote:

Walubengo and all, No I did not apply just a concern that such an important body left without a DG for too long could end up affecting quite a number of other areas in the sector.... And about "white smoke" in Catholic tradition, cardinals elect their supreme Pontiff by writing a name on individual ballot papers, results are then tallied and the ballot papers joined together by needle and thread and finally burned to produce “white smoke” if pope has been elected and “black smoke” if not to alert the waiting (with bated breath) public of the election and in addition the bells of St Peter's Basilica are rung to signal the election of the new Pope and to avoid any doubt about whether the smoke is white or black. So Bwana Ndemo and Minister Porgishio, is it white, black or other smoke/s for the CCK Director General, either way the public is waiting with bated breath! regards Wambui

There is a time Kenya was without a VP for how long? And nothing really happened, or I never felt it:-) I'd say there is no vacuum, or it simply won't be felt much. Kenyans are used to such situations. As a matter of fact, this is the only "media" where anyone has dared raise that issue. I haven't seen it being raised elsewhere. I do believe there are political considerations being made towards the appointment, or do you suppose they will advertise the vacancy and let the best candidate win? That would be another KE, but the KE we want! -- Best regards, Odhiambo WASHINGTON, Nairobi,KE +254733744121/+254722743223 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ "Oh My God! we have also been watching and waiting for the appointment of the DG with keen interest. the job was certainly advertised and as you put it its a highly political office so all parties have to be satisfied with the selection. kanja --- Odhiambo Washington <odhiambo@gmail.com> wrote:

Yes indeed, the Kenya we want...when institutions will be allowed to function without political influence/interference/patronage/etc etc. When appointments will be made based on merit/professionalism and a proven record of hard work, etc I was hoping against hope that with the CCK, and another parastatal don't recall, which one (KPA?), acted differently by adopting good corporate governance procedures for recruitment by placing adverts for the chief executive positions, short listing, etc etc that finally we were serious about being professional and practicing good governance. Local press praised both institutions at that time. But now, I suppose, if we are all in agreement that the decision should be delayed because it has to be a political decision, despite having subjected the recruitment to "proper" process, then I dare say that nothing has really changed....poor Kenyan's!
