Fwd: Opportunity to represent non-commercial interests at ICANN
I received this email and thought it might be interest you! ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: David Sasaki <osopecoso@gmail.com> Date: 2009/8/8 Subject: [Rising Voices] Opportunity to represent non-commercial interests at ICANN This was sent to the Global Voices Author's mailing list, but I think there are many individuals on the Rising Voices list that would also make excellent candidates. Best, David Begin forwarded message: From: Rebecca MacKinnon Dear all, I believe there are many members of the GV community who may be interested and qualified for this opportunity (click link below for full details). ICANN badly needs more people representing civil society, particularly members of civil society from the developing world and from communities whose governments are not democratically elected. http://www.icann.org/en/announcements/announcement-05aug09-en.htm Excerpt: "Representation of the Non Commercial Community on the GNSO Council will double from three to six representatives this October when a new Council is seated in Seoul, South Korea. New transitional ICANN Board appointments will fill three of the new Council seats. This month the ICANN Board is accepting Statements of Interest from members of the non commercial community who would like to volunteer for these three new positions and potentially serve as full GNSO Councilors for the next two years....this is a unique opportunity for leaders in the non commercial community to step forward and serve the ICANN community at a pivotal moment in the Internet's development." It is my understanding that ICANN has funding available to support travel and attendance at the three yearly ICANN meetings for the new board members.
