Re: [kictanet] Laptops4Schools...from 350usd to 100usd
True that. I attended morning session and so missed afty and Min of Educ. presentation. Maybe prudent to float that particular presentation in advance - @Sang? walu. nb. Press reports, the Standard today claims the cost of unit Laptop has dropped from 27,000 to 8,000. Looks like government is now leaning toward the usual 100usd OLPC, one laptop per child model- which maybe good but why do i feel this laptop was already going at 100usd anyway :-) ------------------------------ On Fri, Jul 5, 2013 9:17 AM AST (Arabian) CEO-EAX wrote:
Thanks for the emails and well done to Kictanet for this.
If the presentation from Ministry of Education is the core project presentation on the proposed execution, I agree that it would be great to share this before compiling the final report from the meeting. This will allow those who were unable to participate to provide input.
Regards and allow me to duly reintroduce my new address.

Daktari,
The presentations will be shared with the brief report as soon as it is ready. The Ministry representative indicated that there is plenty of room for the ICT sector to engage with it to make the project a success. Over 80 stakeholders participated and the discussions were insightfull as Yawe says. Many thanks to iLab Africa (Strathmore University), the Ministry of Education represented by Mr. Sang, UNESCO, represented by Jaco Du Toit, Africa Nazarene University represented by Mercy Kawira, LPI East Africa represented by Evans Ikua, and all the other stakeholders who found time to come and engage.
Best Regards

Hi,
As many of you are aware yesterday KICTANET held a forum at Strathmore to come up with a position paper on the Class 1 Laptop project that will be rolling out in January 2014.
We had a number of very enlightening position papers but most important was a presentation by the Ministry of Education on the project.
Your core team will be compiling the final report which will be presented on behalf of KICTANET to the relevant government and parliamentary groups on the 19th of July 2013.

The discussions yesterday were interesting and many pertinent questions were raised which the government and stakeholders need to address in order to make this project a success. Surprisingly there was hardly anyone from the Animation Industry present yet there is obviously quite some demand now to convert or develop content into interactive digital formats that suitable for the young ones in time for January 2014....
