KENIC deletes isuhuruinkenya.co.ke domain
Hello Listers, Isn't this censorship? http://www.monitor.co.ke/2015/12/07/kenic-shuts-down-a-kenyan-domain/
Well, this isn't a good look. When it when down I thought the owner took it down didn't think to look into it. Kenic has the following questions to answer: 1. Under which law or policy was this done? Provide the court order 2. If it wasn't under those then who's authority? Names and positions 3. What methods exist to challenge such take downs? 4. How is this even legal? Documentation showing such would be appreciated. Finally that the owner of the website needs to go to your offices to pick up a let is a shame because email. Or is that a tactic to further intimidated the website owner? We should all be especially wary... On 7 Dec 2015 16:17, "James Wamathai via kictanet" < kictanet@lists.kictanet.or.ke> wrote:

Mwendwa I second that. Totally. In the same breadth however we need to be entirely sure that this didn't happen. It's very simple. KeNIC needs to engage and dispel these rumors and social media mongering. So what Techweez reported was a lie? Well done to them for taking the step to call KENIC btw. The whosis lookup confirmed what they reported. But if it has nothing to do with them they need to have a talk about communication with some of their employees, particularly the lady who answered their queries. I'd also like to point out that the site is still down for me. On 7 Dec 2015 17:44, "Mwendwa Kivuva" <Kivuva@transworldafrica.com> wrote:
Listers,
Let us understand that KENIC is a social good. It is ours to protect. KENIC does not belong to them, it belongs to us.
When we start spreading false rumours against our KENIC, what are we doing to it's brand? Wisdom calls for us to verify any information before we go guns blazing. We are now persecuting an innocent entity.
Long live KENIC.

Eric, Is this explainable by the fact that whois.kenic.or.ke is now taken down so that we cannot query the status of domains? Taking this down is one thing that KENIC has done to shoot itself in the foot I can tell you. Kenic needs to style up because honestly speaking, there is really nothing special with having a .KE domain. It's just out of fake patriotism that we register .KE names. At the end of the day KENIC is a business that must remember that clients come first. On 7 December 2015 at 17:06, Eric Ndungu via kictanet < kictanet@lists.kictanet.or.ke> wrote:

Eric,
Is this explainable by the fact that whois.kenic.or.ke is now taken down so that we cannot query the status of domains?
Taking this down is one thing that KENIC has done to shoot itself in the foot I can tell you.
Kenic needs to style up because honestly speaking, there is really nothing special with having a .KE domain. It's just out of fake patriotism that we register .KE names. At the end of the day KENIC is a business that must remember that clients come first.

If this actually happened then it's a shame. KeNIC does need to answer this.
Good news though:-
isuhuruinkenya.today isuhuruinkenya.com isuhuruinkenya.net isuhuruinkenya.org isuhuruinkenya.in isuhuruinkenya.info isuhuruinkenya.xyz isuhuruinkenya.life etc...
Are all available..This site should be back up in a few hours if the owners are willing.
Would be interesting to see if these will be snapped up in the next few minutes..:-)
We sure are living in interesting times. We have choices.

Dear Listeners, Thank you for the various comments about the domain ”isuhuruinkenya.co.ke” The official position of the matter is as follows, (1) We have not deleted the domain as claimed. There is a comprehensive process of addressing domains disputes. The processes are contained in our ADRP (Alternative Dispute Resolution Policy). This policy can be accessed from our website. Those have used the process to address Domain disputes know that the process is clear. (2) Currently, our WHOIS search can not be accessed. This is because there has been some issues with our ISP (liquid Telcom) connection this evening. Liquid Telcom team on this list will confirm that KENIC’s technical team has been in contact with them since 5:30 pm today. Our second ISP connection has not been able to pick up. This is being addressed as a separate issue (3) The secondary site is currently up, so in a few minutes, the WHOIS search will be able to be up and running. Lastly, there has been NO pressure from above or below to influence deletion of any domain. Thank you, and I hope this explanation assists to put this matter to rest Kind Regards Abdalla Omari Chief Executive Officer. On Dec 7, 2015, at 4:16 PM, James Wamathai via kictanet wrote:

Abdalla Thanks for the prompt and clear response. This should put the matter as pertains KeNIC to rest. We are all relieved. The community however should be interested in finding out exactly what happened. 1. Was the site hacked and brought down? 2. Did the the host decide the potato was too hot? 3. Why blame KeNIC?
