Re: [kictanet] Public Sector Appointments must be on MERIT

Thank you for the reassurance with regard to the particular instance of the DG Bwana P.S. This is what we want to hear: that Public Sector appointments are on Merit, especially in our industry. Waudo On Sun, 27 Jul 2008 21:36:51 +0300 (EAT), bitange@jambo.co.ke said:
Dear Waudo, I agree with you 100% that Public Sector Appointments MUST be on MERIT. Indeed the process that led up to the appointment of the DG was transparent and meritorious. The reason why the selection agency (Ernest Young) was competitively picked was to avoid any form of interverance.
The Agency gave the Board six names. Five attended the interviews. Three names were forwarded to the Minister. Unfortunately, none of the five was a woman (new policy we need to give a certain % of appointment to women who make it to such a high level list plus other considerations include regional representation). The Minister has the prerogative of picking any of the last three finalists but in this case he picked based on the order of merit. In sum total, there was no political interverance in appointing CCK DG. The Government is open to views on a more meritorious process that we need to use especially in appointing the Brand Kenya CEO.
Asante.
