Participants have the opportunity to take part in an intensive two-week programme in Oxford that blends expert instruction with participatory activity, group work and discussion. *JOIN AN ENGAGED AND VIBRANT ALUMNI COMMUNITY* With around 30 participants from more than 20 countries, the Media Policy Institute offers participants unrivalled exposure to global media and technology challenges. The Institute’s alumni are an exceptional and vibrant group who stay engaged well past the end of the two weeks. Many go on to become leaders at top government agencies, non-profits, corporations and universities around the world. *THEMES* The Internet and other new technologies are rapidly and irreversibly changing global media environments presenting enormous challenges for building policies that both understand the scope of new technologies such as artificial intelligence, biometrics and social media, and can adequately protect the rights of people using them. Topics to be explored during the institute include online censorship, social media content regulation, net neutrality, the spread of disinformation online, and the relationship between technology and democratic participation, amongst others. Participants will leave with a thorough understanding of how these issues influence, and are influenced by, laws and regulations governing the media and communications technologies in diverse contexts and jurisdictions. *HOW TO APPLY* The Institute is co-organized by the University of Oxford’s Programme in Comparative Media Law and Policy at the Centre for Socio-Legal Studies, the Annenberg School of Communication at the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Johannesburg’s School of Communication. *APPLY FOR THE 2020 OXFORD MEDIA POLICY SUMMER INSTITUTE* https://pcmlp.socleg.ox.ac.uk/oxford-media-policy-summer-institute/apply/ -- ELEANOR R MARCHANT PHD *ConflictNET Postdoctoral Fellow | Programme in Comparative Media Law & Policy, Centre for Socio-Legal Studies, Oxford University* *Tw: **@ermarchant <https://twitter.com/ermarchant> | www.eleanormarchant.me <http://www.eleanormarchant.me>*
