Safaricom's low dividend payments

Hi all: just wondering: would it make more sense for safaricom to just 'sambaza' airtime amounts equivalent to the dividend payments for those with less than say 2,000 shares (which translates to a dividend of khss 200), as i believe this would save them (shareholders) from having to incur the MPESA transaction fees of Kshs 30? what do others think? thanks. Hi Michael, I've just gone through their dividend payment flier. There is no charge in buying airtime. Quoting FAQ #7: "Will I be charged to Receive my dividend by M-PESA? NO. *You will not be charged to receive your dividend by M-PESA* but note that the normal M-PESA transfer charges apply to transactions on your account e.g withdrawal, paying bills etc. apart from *buying airtime which is free of any charges."* Seems like the only cost will be "effort" :) Tony.

Michael, That is a very smart thinking. To add to the cost of withdrawal, people living upcountry sometimes spend on transport to access M-Pesa services. Maybe Safaricom could create an SMS system where shareholders could choose whether they want to be paid in cash OR equivalent in form of airtime. Intersting thoughts... But keep in mind that not all shareholders are safaricom subscribers :) SammyG On Mon, Oct 12, 2009 at 1:24 PM, Akich Kwach <[email protected]>wrote:
