Kenya Registered Domains Decline

Dear Listers, This is a conversation that Mr Ali Hussein and Barrack Otieno have been pushing. CA's Sector Statistics Report Q3 2019-2020. <https://ca.go.ke/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/Sector-Statistics-Report-Q3-2019-2020.pdf> The number of registered domains dropped from 91,940 reported during the previous quarter to 91,603 domains during the period under review. As indicated during the previous quarter, the drop is attributed to the closure of businesses and other non-governmental institutions in the country. Thanks Indeje. The government domains seem to be very low.....have they not been converted by the .ke gospel? On Thu, 2 Jul 2020 at 10:01, David Indeje via kictanet < [email protected]> wrote:

Could it be to do with security? Some people seem to prefer .com domains coz they are hosted abroad out of reach of security agencies. JG Mbugua On Thu, 2 Jul 2020 at 10:42, Grace Bomu via kictanet < [email protected]> wrote:

@watila, due to the nature of the google brand, it has many Registrars around the world. In some cases due to the requirement for local presence, international Registrars who have the rights to manage the google brand sub contract local registrars to register the domains on behalf of google. As such you are right to asert that some of the Registrars may not necessarily offer .co.ke domains. Best On Fri, 3 Jul 2020, 10:10 am awatila--- via kictanet, < [email protected]> wrote:

Perhaps then it is time for the KeNIC governance/Board to open KE domains to all registrars whether they have presence in Kenya or not. This would surely assist KE reaching the million milestone somewhat quicker. Protecting local Registrars has perhaps had its place and time - time for change? Personally - this would make maintaining my KE domains DNSSEC status easier and I'd probably add a few more domains too. On 2020/07/04 11:58, Barrack Otieno via kictanet wrote:
