The rollout to branches is done with 48 cores. KPLC only needs 2 pairs leaving the rest available for leasing. the fiber could be extended to homes providing the opportunity for provision of other services. This can be done at a considerably cheaper cost than laying fiber in the ground. However KPLC's core mandate remains distribution and retail of electricity so fiber remains in "other income" category.
