Re: [kictanet] [Skunkworks] Safaricom wako na MADHARAU!!
Oh, this must have escaped me from any available fine prints! I redemeed 30000 points for a phone (Alcatel OT-918) and guess what? The phone is locked to Safaricom network. I have just discovered this after starting my adventures with the Android phone. Having redeemed a phone before (Huawei IDEOS which was never locked) it did not occur to me that one day I will be redeeming network-locked items. I think this is another level of MADHARAU. These were my Bonga points, diligently accumulated from spending my hard-earned money talking on SCOM network and I don't really think SCOM should have the power to decide for me what to do with a device I get from them as a result of being a Loyal customer (which now is surely going out of the window!) Does this now mean that those who redeem their Bonga points for Airtime cannot use that airtime to call numbers which are not Safaricom's? I see a situation where SCOM is becoming unwise. Let me see if their position is that I MUST not use the phone on a different network. On Thu, Aug 2, 2012 at 6:10 PM, Odhiambo Washington <odhiambo@gmail.com>wrote:
@Mugo,
For sure it's only an issue when it comes to Bonga-points redemption. Here is what I have learn during the last few days I have interacted with them:
1. Redemption merchandise stock are provisioned differently than the stocks for sale. 2. They almost want to force clients who are redeeming their Bonga points to a restricted subset of the products. When I went to the shop, I was told only one color is available for the redemption items. Different colors of the same items were very much available for the sales stock. It was almost like forcing a color on me! This is not wise. You cannot force a client to take a red phone instead of their color choice! SCOM must do something about this. They should modify their system to allow an item to be picked from the same stocks, and be classified differently on the system at the till - as new sale or redemption. There is no point in placing restrictions on the redemption merchandise. 3. I was able to navigate through the Bonga system menu and redeem an item even though the SIM card did not have sufficient points for the items I intended to redeem. This should look like an anomaly to me. It should check and fail to give me a password if the Bonga points are less than the number/quantity required for the item.
I have to say that after all the bad experience, I got the necessary help and have my problem with redemption sorted out.

I'm sure that had you been purchasing the same, STOCK would have turned up from somewhere by now. in fact, they would have asked you for your phone no. to alert you when it arrives...

These were my Bonga points, diligently accumulated from spending my hard-earned money talking on SCOM network and I don't really think SCOM should have the power to decide for me what to do with a device I get from them as a result of being a Loyal customer (which now is surely going out of the window!)
Does this now mean that those who redeem their Bonga points for Airtime cannot use that airtime to call numbers which are not Safaricom's?
I see a situation where SCOM is becoming unwise. Let me see if their position is that I MUST not use the phone on a different network.
On Thu, Aug 2, 2012 at 6:10 PM, Odhiambo Washington <odhiambo@gmail.com> wrote: @Mugo,
For sure it's only an issue when it comes to Bonga-points redemption.

I too am a customer of Safcom and it surely sucks!! The bonga points is so out of proportion to what we spend that it is daylight robbery!! Secondly, I bought a brand new Galaxy Mini from their Safcom shop at the Junction at Christmas last year. After 4 days the battery of the phone was discharging itself without even any usage. When returning the item to the shop to be checked they informed me that the Android system sucks the battery life and therefore if you use any internet service i.e 3G, then the other applications, the battery will die. I could not imagine buying a NEW phone with this problem. As it was the holidays, they adviced me to go and charge it again and see what happens. by this time, I obviously didn't and couldn't use it and kept it away until the new year - January 2012. I then took it back in the first week of January and was told to leave it with them for checking at their service centre (which is the FONEXPRESS service centre apprently). After two weeks of keeping my phone I was called back and told that my phone had liquid and that the mother board was rusted and that's why it couldn't work!! Now I am not techie but I know that the battery problem did not appear because the motherboard was rusted!! Not only that someone has to be really duh to insist that the phone, which did not go near any liquid or water, was still working other than the battery was not lasting long enough, not even for 2 hours after full charging! How does this work?? I demanded back my money or a new phone replacement, but they flatly refused cause they said it had liquid and they cud not change the phone or refund the money!! What service or justice is this??? They sell products that aren't of good quality and do not honor there warranties!! So I lost out completely. Mr. Bob Collymore, where are you in all of this?? You don't seem to have your hands on all these problems going on and the safcom staff are not only unfriendly and unhelpful but have no customer service!! Sorry that I appear bitter, but how else should I feel? sorry for venting. No other choice and thanks Washington for bringing this up and to the attention of all. Hope Mr. Collymore and his team will read these complaints and do something about this whole bad state of affairs. On 2 August 2012 23:13, Ali Hussein <ali@hussein.me.ke> wrote:

They don't have any birth right to the business I'm giving them.. Let me wait and see what they have in store for me with the current situation.
Funny enough, I am a shareholder:-)

Gentlemen
I have been following this discourse with interest. Are you guys Masochistic or get something out of being punished for being a customer or you still think Safaricom is a Monopoly??
I have one word for you guys - VUKA! (or two..HAMA!) :-)
Is it a coincidence that the multitude of Safaricom staffers who are lurkers on this list don't even deign to respond to you guys?
My Mpesa cents..

@Mugo,
For sure it's only an issue when it comes to Bonga-points redemption.

Funny that only BongaPoints-redeemable stuff is always out of stock.
I'm sure that had you been purchasing the same, STOCK would have turned up from somewhere by now. in fact, they would have asked you for your phone no. to alert you when it arrives...

True, not good.
Imagine I have a shop in Eldoret that says we have fresh mangoes, and customers make the trip only to tell them it is out of stock. Time *is* money (at least to me), don't say you can do what you cannot do. We might as well all say we can do anything, only to tell prospective clients "sorry, we don't offer this service at this time!"
