A call for better Service Level Agreements - Utility Providers
Like many Kenyan’s who do not live near key installations served by dedicated power lines, having reliable power for both home and office use can be a game of chance. We have become accustomed to outages and brown outs from the lightest of rains and the odd monkey tinkering with and tripping some wires. Unfortunately, I have never once heard of restitution to a customer, resulting from downtime – scheduled or otherwise from the electricity transmission and distribution monopoly. That electricity is a key element in all factors of production and needed for the addition of value and maximization of outputs across industries, should say something about the service guarantees that should be available to consumer’s turnkey. http://www.mbuguanjihia.com/tech/call-better-service-level-agreements.html *Regards,* Mbugua Njihia ᐧ ᐧ
Hi Mbugua, There is a real need for change and if there is a consumer lobby group that is able to agree certain rules with the utility sector, please also add data and voice connect, emergency services. Dear All, Could someone kindly provide me with a link to the Privacy and Data Protection Bill? I read somewhere from this forum that it is in Parliament awaiting to be passed. Thanks Lawrence Dinga, MSc. (InfoSec & Forensics), CISSP Managecom Systems Ltd +254 721226324/ 0733973999
I think the bill lapsed? It should be a critically bill to be passed. I’m hoping that the community can review this bill again and possibly make representations to the house. Wow! According the data from UNCTAD Website 23 (43%) African countries have put in place comprehensive privacy and data protection laws. Kenya led by CIPIT contested the adoption of the AU Convention on cyber security and data protection in 2014 and lobbied other Member States to reject it. Does it mean that up to now we don’t even have anything in the kitchen? I understand the data protection bill 2009 was copied verbatim from the EU Directive 95/46/EC on the Protection of Personal Data which is being replaced by the GDPR as from May 2018. Don’t you think we need to do something in the absence of anything cooking? Regards Lawrence Dinga, MSc. Lawrence We certainly do. My main worry, which should be the worry for many in the sector is simply this:- South Africa is currently enjoying a near monopoly when it comes to setting up serious globally competitive data centers. I understand Microsoft and Amazon already have or are in the process of doing so. While there are other factors to consider like infrastructure (electricity, connectivity etc) serious investors won’t even bother if there are no strong policy framework to support this. One of the frameworks is a solid data protection and security law. Hi All, We have been looking at the whole area of data protection and now have good handle on the GDPR compliance as this will hit all doing business with the compliance requirements with the European Union. We further have been surprised by the ignorance displayed by the local organisations be it a ngo, public sector operator or a private enterprise. Furthermore, if not taken seriously a very small process fix could hamper your business, and the fines related to GDPR are hefty from the European Union. If anybody requires help in being compliant we are offering to audit their business and provide recommendations as part of our cyber security practice. Hey Mbugua, The lapsed Energy Bill attempted to introduce restitution in cases where someone has suffered loss from power outages. The President returned the Bill taking issue with that particular clause. The Energy Bill has now been reintroduced in Parliament. Perhaps we have an opportunity to make some noise about it, hoping this House is more genuine in how they conduct public participation than the last.
