Man fined Sh100,000 for using Mwazo’s name

Tuesday, September 25, 2012 - 00:00 -- BY ALPHONCE MUN A man was yesterday ordered to pay a fine of Sh100,000 or 10 months imprisonment for impersonating Voi MP Danson Mwazo and creating Facebook account of him. Liverson Alama Mwashube who appeared before Nairobi senior principal magistrate Paul Biwott admitted the offence of creating Facebook account with intent to defraud. He however denied another charge of Electronic Fraud contrary to section 84B Kenya Information and Communication Act 1998. Reading the facts of the case, chief inspector Robert Kyaa, told the court that on diverse dates between May 2012, and September 2012 at Voi Distrtict within Taita Taveta County, with intent to defraud, the accused created a facebook account of Mwazo thereby impersonating to be him. The court also heard that on the same months, the accused created facebook account of Mr Mwazo where he used to defraud one Diana Mwachofi of Sh2,600. The prosecutor told the court that the matter was investigated where the MP denied having created such facebook account. He said that the facebook also shown M-Pesa account at Equity bank account. The prosecutor said the facebook was created for purpose of impersonation the MP. Mwazo denied having operated such account.
