Dear Listers, Greetings from Young African Leaders Initiative Regional Leadership Center for East Africa. (YALI RLC) The Young African Leaders Initiative <http://www.yali.state.gov/> (YALI) was launched as a signature effort to invest in the next generation of African leaders through Regional Leadership Centers (RLCs). There are three other RLCs across the continent in Ghana, Senegal and South Africa. All the Centers provide training in three distinct tracks - (1) Business & Entrepreneurship, (2) Civic Leadership and (3) Public Management. Nairobi hosts the YALI RLC in East Africa and works with young leaders from 14 East and Central African countries. As part of our program, participants from the 14 countries around East and Central Africa work on a project that solves a challenge or problem that is provided to them by an innovative organization that is challenging the status quo in their particular sector. We call this a *Design Challenge*. Typically it involves a problem statement from an organization that allows the participants to go out into the field and interview potential clients/stakeholders and then come up with possible solutions. We are inviting you to come on board and provide our participants with a Design Challenge - an opportunity to apply the tools they learn to come up with a solution to some of the areas of difficulty or areas where you would like a fresh perspective and new insight not only from a Kenyan perspective but from a greater East, Central and Horn of Africa perspective. Attached find a guiding document that will assist you in structuring your presentation and coming up with a design challenge based on the unique needs of your organization.
