*Freedom Online conference in Kenya-6th -7th September* * * *Kenya will be hosting the 2nd Freedom Online Conference on 6th and 7thSeptember at UNON complex, Gigiri. * * * *The conference that was first held at The Hague, Netherlands in December, 2011, *will focus on building stronger support for internet freedom, and articulate the importance of internet freedom for development and governance. The Conference themes are: *ICT, entrepreneurship and corporate social responsibility*; *Censorship vs freedom of expression, assembly and association*; *Access to the Internet: challenges and opportunities*. Kenya is among the 17 member states that subscribe to the ideology that *keeping the internet open and free is a worldwide endeavor, which requires worldwide efforts.* * * Kenya’s hosting of the conference is an important step for Internet freedom in Africa and for the Coalition’s efforts globally. By building stronger support for Internet freedom across Africa and articulating its importance for development, African states can be a model for developing countries around the world. By focusing on the importance of Internet freedom for development and governance, the Coalition will underline the potential of a free and open Internet for people around the world. * * *Already, a good number of Ministers, government officials, and top dignitaries from around the world have confirmed their attendance. * * * *We wish to invite all stakeholders to the event and be part of the movement that determines how free the Internet will get.
