Listers, I was wondering what had gone wrong with my usually-very-fast Internet connection in the last two days but it looks like the answer is here : http://www.standardmedia.co.ke/?articleID=2000053001&pageNo=1 . As you may be guessing by now, a ship has yet again docked in the wrong place and damaged a cable! Get used to the slow connection, it will be like this for at least 14 more days! (ouch) In the eyes of Albert Einstein, we(Kenyans) would be nothing but insane since we have done things in the same way expecting different results! I may not be a prophet but I can assure you this is not going to be the last cable cut! Some months ago, I asked the P.S whether there were any measures put in place to protect telecommunications infrastructure but he did not give me an answer since, according to him, my question was 'simplistic'! -- Kind Regards, Moses Muya.
Isn't this getting a bit ridiculous? This is the third or fourth cut this year so far. I have so many questions: 1. Is anything being done to prevent ships from entering restricted areas? 2. Are they provided with updated maps and are ignoring them? 3. Is KPA being slow in sending ships the information? 4. If 2 above, are the ships being fined (heavily) for loss of income to many business in Kenya and other countries? 5. If 3 above is KPA being fined (heavily) for loss of income to many business in Kenya and other countries? On Fri, Jul 13, 2012 at 11:40 PM, Moses Muya <mouzmuyer@gmail.com> wrote:

Moses, I have never considered any question as simplistic. I had just said that the law protecting communications infrastructure had been passed and anybody trying to interfere with it will suffer the consequence. So far fibre thieves have only been fined 10,000 but this has changed. Police have shot dead a number of them but that has not been a deterrence. We shall keep on arresting till they stop. In rural areas we have an education programme that has paid off but it does not work in urban areas. Ndemo. Great! Thank you sir for the response. However, as this post suggests, I am not referring to the 'small' cable cuts done supposedly by ISPs to their competitors in acts of sabotage. What I refer to is marine cable damage(EASSY,TEAMS,LION, e.t.c) which have a greater effect on Kenyans. Are the shipping companies just allowed to get away with a simple 'sorry we didn't ' know - while Kenyans suffer the consequences? On 14 Jul 2012, at 15:07, bitange@jambo.co.ke wrote:

Moses, Nobody gets away with a "simple" sorry. We are in court on two accounts of cable cuts. This a matter that cannot subject of court. I think they call it sub judice. Ndemo. Daktari, Great! That will go a long way in encouraging them to be more careful! On 14 Jul 2012, at 23:38, bitange@jambo.co.ke wrote:
