Sources of Growth Study - Draft ICT Questionnaire
Dear Colleagues, Sometime back I had indicated that we are undertaking a Sources of Growth Study in liaison with the World Bank and IFPRI. I indicated that I would be sharing with you the draft survey instrument for your comment and input. The draft survey instrument is ready and is attached to this e-mail. We would like to hear from you on the following points: 1. Does the instrument capture the totality of the ICT Sector in Kenya 2. Does it capture all the inputs in an ICT Firm's productive process? 3. Does it disaggregate these inputs well esp. domestic, foreign, gender etc. 4. Do we capture the end products and the users of the end products of ICT firms well? Are the user final or intermediate users? We look forward to your incisive comments and additions as always. With kind regards, Eric M. Aligula, PhD. Policy Analyst Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA) P.O. Eric, Category of companies: you need to name a trading category, like Distributors of hard-and software. Telephony category: need to group into retailers and infrastructure providers. Simu Ya Jamii comes under Telephone Bureau. Are you interested in "one-man" companies, like phone bureaus and equipment repair shops? IT Company must be specified and subcategorised: consultancy; systems integrator; software development; etc. Consider for survey tallying purposes that many forms fall in multiple categories. Must you follow the Harmonised Code? Cheers, Marcel Werner Quoting Eric Aligula <Jairah@kippra.or.ke>:

Thanks Eric This is a landmark study and will redefine the role of ICT in economic growth I wish to seek some clarifications In your email of 12/8 you indicated that you would be sending out some details of the project. This perhaps would have set out the research objectives which gives a very clear framework for the data collection tool. Without objectives that the research intends to pursue, it becomes difficult to exhaustively comment on the tool Nevertheless some issues you can quickly clarify - to whom will the questionnaire be administered - under the Category of firm Not clear where Web designers and Software developers and infrastructure companies fit IT company need redefinition - are they hardware/software vendors. If so should not be grouped under internet Am unable to relate page 1 category of firm with such entries as Agriculture subheadings at bottom of page 2 -Numbering at Expenditure and receipts Cheers and wishing you luck Muriuki Mureithi --------------------------------------- Summit Strategies Ltd - Strategic information for decision support in infocommunication business ICT Consultancy & Research in Eastern & Central African markets Contacts : Tel +254 (20) 3875824 , Cell + 254 (722) 520090, email: mureithi@summitstrategies.co.ke -----Original Message----- From: kictanet-bounces@kictanet.or.ke [mailto:kictanet-bounces@kictanet.or.ke] On Behalf Of Eric Aligula Sent: 22 August 2005 11:24 To: 'Kenya ICT Policy - kictanet' Subject: [Kictanet] Sources of Growth Study - Draft ICT Questionnaire Dear Colleagues, Sometime back I had indicated that we are undertaking a Sources of Growth Study in liaison with the World Bank and IFPRI.
