KICTANet is calling for an Associate and five Interns
The Kenya ICT Action Network (KICTANet) is a multi-stakeholder platform for people and institutions interested and involved in ICT policy and regulation. The network aims to act as a catalyst for reform in the ICT sector in support of the national aim of ICT enabled growth and development. KICTANet adopts a community driven approach in the discussions. In 2007, KICTANet conducted an institutional assessment to gauge its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities for growth as well as threats. The assessment assisted KICTANet to strategically position itself as an authoritative ICT policy discussion listserve that has attracted participation from individuals across stakeholder groups in the country. The platform also has a following within East African the region and globally. KICTANet seeks to analyse the discussions that have taken place on the platform since 2007. The analysis will give a historical view of the activities of the forum and also inform the direction that KICTANet will take in future, based on the trends in participation. Toward this end, KICTANet seeks a project associate to spearhead this assignment, and five (5) Interns. The associate will work with interns to design, analyze and draft a report based on KICTANet's online discussions, for two months. The associate and the five interns may be based anywhere as the bulk of the work will be carried out online. 1. Project Associate – Analysis of KICTANet Discussions The Position Project Associate: Analysis of KICTANet Discussions Overall Purpose of the Job To be the lead in the analysis of KICTANet’s online discussions since 2007 and provide a report that will be shared with the community. Contractual Period Fixed term of 2 months- July 10, 2016 to September 10, 2016. Remuneration Ksh30,000 gross per month inclusive of all benefits. Duties and Responsibilities Reporting to the Steering team, the project associate will: 1. - Design the project outline as well as tools to be used by interns in analyzing KICTANet’s online discussions; 2. - Analyse the discussions that have taken place on the KICTANet platform since 2007, classifying them into thematic areas; 3. - Draft a report to be shared with the community; 4. – If necessary, conduct interviews with key participants in the community with a view to enriching the report and making recommendations; 5. - Assign duties and manage the five interns; 6. - Together with the Lead assigned by the Steering team, manage the project to deliver results within timelines; 7. - Perform any other related duties as may be assigned by the steering team. Qualifications You should have: · A good understanding of ICT policy making and Internet Governance in general; · A good understanding of KICTANet processes; and · Proficiency in computer applications. · (Bachelor’s degree in Law, Public Policy, Political Science, Human Rights or Social Sciences will be an added advantage). Personal Attributes In addition, we are seeking an individual who is: · Results driven with a record of delivering outcomes within specified timeframes ; · Committed to participatory policy making and multistakeholderism ; and · Excellent in interpersonal skills and able to manage people. 2. KICTANet Project Interns The Position Project Interns: Analysis of KICTANet Discussions Overall Purpose of the Job To assist in the analysis of KICTANet's online discussions since 2007 and participate in the drafting of a report that will be shared with the community. Contractual Period Fixed term of 2 months- July 10, 2016 to September 10, 2016. Allowance An allowance of Ksh. 10, 000 per month will be provided to cater for communication, data and project related expenses. Duties and Responsibilities Reporting to the Project Associate the interns will:- 1. - Within a team, analyse the discussions that have taken place on the KICTANet platform since 2007, classifying them into thematic areas as directed. 2. - Perform any other related duties as may be assigned by the steering team. Qualifications You should have: · Access to a computer and internet connection;-A good understanding of KICTANet processes; and · Proficiency in computer applications. Personal Attributes In addition, we are seeking individuals who are: · Able to deliver on assignments within timelines; · Team players; and · Have an interest in ICT policy making.
