Will the Communications Authority of Kenya spy on Kenyans?
Will the Communications Authority of Kenya spy on Kenyans? This seems to be the question of the week. With mainstream media recentlysplashing headlines to that effect, this conversation is likely to capture the imagination and concerns of Kenyans right through the election period. A court has put atemporary stayon the move by the Communications Authority (CA) while it hears and determines the matter, but it could be implemented if the courts so decide. Thanks GG for sharing. It's instructive that Walu's article, well written as it is leaves more questions than answers. At the heart of this issue is this:- Who can we trust more? The Government, through the CA or the operators? In the absence of a Data Protection law your guess is as good as mine... Hi Ali, With regard to the data protection law. We seem to be talking to ourselves: Question: 1. Can KICTANET and like minded organizations including regulatory authorities make use of Constitutional provisions and ensure that the data protection law is in effect as soon as the next parliament settles down? I propose that we take this route. Losing trust in a critical sector such as ICT that is largely driven by the Internet and Communications Technology will be very harmfull to our economy and vision 2030. We should treat this as a national disaster. Regards On 2/22/17, Ali Hussein via kictanet <kictanet@lists.kictanet.or.ke> wrote:
