Re: [kictanet] Who is ICT Board?

So there was an invite for an ICT meeting at the Coast? Just like somebody has asked, what is the rationale and criteria for selecting the participants? And the invitations? On 26/03/2010, Emmanuel Khisa <Emmanuel.khisa@kadet.co.ke> wrote:

Thanks Solomon, and Wals, - point taken..
And while at it;- "The connected Government summit of 2010" announcement, as released by Lucy of ICT Board on Wed.
Listers, whats' your take..? It's all the way in Mombasa - at Leisure Lodge, where I do not think alot of people have been invited
to take part. Is there any way policy discussants would be able to follow the proceedings from there or in a way participate, as
most of the ICT practitioners I see on the roll seem to be multinationals (MNC's)..?
Once again, I suppose it could be an opportunity to impress on those up there, what the real stakeholders want to see put in place.

Yawe,
Google brought me the official answer @ http://www.ict.go.ke/index.php/theboard/our-mandate-a-objectives
But I could add my own "unofficial" perspective/personal opinion which is that the ICT Board could be the Ministry of Information implementing agent for ICT Strategies/Projects/Activities. This could have been occasioned by the e-Government Secretariate and GITS (Government Info Technology Services) cold-war and power games that may have compromised on each others ability to deliver on technology enabled services for Government.

It was in the newspaper, so seemingly all are invited! -- Cheers, McTim "A name indicates what we seek. An address indicates where it is. A route indicates how we get there." Jon Postel

The ICT meeting at the coast was sponsored by Safaricom, Its a connected Government summit. CEOs of all government companies, ministries (PSs), and big ICT players were invited. The coordination was done through The Kenya ICT Board. If you did not get an invite, and feel you should have, the person to lynch is Kukubo. :) Regards Mwendwa Kivuva On 26 March 2010 13:29, Solomon Mburu Kamau <solo.mburu@gmail.com> wrote:

Mwesh, I think we will have live feeds, from the venue as Lucy and the Chairman from the ICT Board have promised.. Participants can engage online, to follow the different discussions and presentations ongoing. I believe this should next usher us into the era of live video conferencing - hopefully, as broadband becomes "Real broadband", and affordable.. One good thing is that this conference is sponsored by one of the main broadband service providers in the country. I suppose the question of Mobile broadband costing/affordability needs to be covered at this summit exhaustively especially given that the theme is "Connected Government". Simply put, what's causing prices to remain astronomical, when several optic fibre cables have landed on our shores- etc, etc. Is it licensing? Then spotlight needs to turn to the regulator to make it easier for the realization of lowered pricing. Is it overheads costing, as it was mentioned earlier on the forum? - hardly. I differ, especially given the huge profit margins being made. Maybe the shareholders? Not really, perhaps it's time we rein in on private profit interests so that they do not overtake national interests. Let's balance them out. I look forward to Broadband being given airtime, lest it might be interesting to know how Govt. plans to interconnect, without broadband. Or delivery of services over broadband with price tags hitting the ceilings..
