Good afternoon fellow listers, Might anybody be noting problems with the Kenya Internet Exchange Point? My colleagues working with service providers inform me they can not exchange traffic with their fellow counterparts. Warm regards, Michael Bullut. --- *Cell:* *+254 723 393 114.* *Google Talk: michael.bullut **Twitter:** @Kipsang <http://twitter.com/Kipsang/> * *Blog: http://kipsang.wordpress.com/* *E-mail:* *michael.bullut@gmail.com* * * *---*
Hi Michael, Thank you for bringing the issue up. Fortunately KIXP is up and running. However, one of the infrastructure providers who provides the access links to majority of the peers at KIXP has an outage on their network. As a result, most of the peering is down with the exception of a few networks that use different infrastructure providers. Normal exchange should resume once the outage is resolved. Regards, Michuki CTO KIXP. On 3/28/11 3:13 PM, Michael Bullut wrote:

Its probably time ISPs considered dual links to KIXP from different infrastructure providers (at least the ones that had redundancy did not go down), but this was not good enough since most of their peers were down. I recall there used to be special discounts (highly discounted) for links to KIXP. Regards, Thaba On Mon, Mar 28, 2011 at 4:42 PM, Michuki Mwangi <michuki@swiftkenya.com>wrote:

I fully agree. I recall there used to be special discounts (highly discounted)
for links to KIXP.
If there are none - its an opportunity awaiting to be explored. :). Regards, Michuki.
Good afternoon. Anyone else having trouble with our IXP. How soon can the problem be fixed? On Mon, Mar 28, 2011 at 5:30 PM, Michuki Mwangi <michuki@swiftkenya.com>wrote:

What problem are you experiencing since i can see the KIXP has been up all day. Regards, Michuki.
On a related matter, our electricity has been going on and off all day. We keep trying to call KPLC and they will not pick up. Obviously, it is hard to compute without electricity. I know we are having rationing, but this is ridiculous. Rigia On 8/11/11, Michuki Mwangi <michuki@swiftkenya.com> wrote:

Evening Michuki, turns out it's my provider's link/interface to the IXP, which is really sad as this is becoming an intermittent problem. My business revolves around our IXP. with latencies of an average of 612ms+ and a packet loss of over 60%, *SMH as i remember the not so fond memories of vsat links* it makes it really hard to work. I hope they fix it soon. Thank you and have a good evening. On Thu, Aug 11, 2011 at 4:07 PM, Michuki Mwangi <michuki@swiftkenya.com>wrote:
